"Capcom Japan announced today that it will serve as publisher for the Japanese version of Grand Theft Auto IV. The game, both in its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 incarnations, will be released on the island nation some time this year. Past Grand Theft Auto games have been published in Japan by Capcom to both critical and commercial success, with the games often selling over the 200,000 unit mark. Capcom tends to go all out, with promotional events and television commercials."

According to the NPD annual software charts for 2008, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV 360 outsold GTA IV PS3 by nearly 2:1. The open world action title sold 3.29 million copies on 360 and just 1.89 million on Sony’s console where GTA games have traditionally resided. In fact, last year’s release was the first simultaneous multiplatform release for the franchise. GTA IV 360 could see a resurgence in sales as platform exclusive DLC, Lost and Damned, becomes available later on this year.

In a Q3 fiscal 2008 earnings call, Take-Two CEO Benjamin Feder revealed the publisher expects sales of Grand Theft Auto IV to exceed any previous GTA title. "First Rockstar is launching a new marketing and PR campaign which will start in the fall and extend into the holiday season. Also as a must-have game for all fans of interactive entertainment, GTA IV we believe should receive a boost from the ramp up in hardware sales during the upcoming holiday season," said Feder.

Plenty of coverage from Mr.Dille's forthcoming interview today but we did get US LTD's for GTA:IV today. The PS3 sku is at 1.96m vs 3.66m on the 360. Take 2's most recent financials had GTA:IV at between 10-11m sold/shipped so the US would represent around 50% of sales.

Gaming Only got word from reliable sources about a Grand Theft Auto IV/PS3 Bundle. The bundle should be released on April 29th and contains a PS3 40Gb and GTA IV. The bundle will cost you €429,99.

Earlier this week a number of websites began writing stories claiming that the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV would cost more than the Xbox 360 version in the UK. The rumor began at Videogaming247 and was based on a poster hung in the window of a branch of WH Smith.
