VideoGaming247 - May 12, 2008

Submitted by deftangel (291) at 12:25AM PST on May 12, 2008

Following news that Mass Effect will now no longer use SecuRom’s automatic ten-day authentication system, EA’s confirmed that Spore’s to ditch the unpopular measure as well. Press release after the link. Good work for actually listening to people, EA.

Try the Creature Creator Demo now!

Kotaku - June 13, 2008

Submitted by BishopB (600) at 12:53PM PST on June 14, 2008

The plan was to have a Spore Creature Creator Demo, containing about 25 percent of the full library of creature pieces parts, going out to the public around June 17...Well, a file purporting to be that demo is on Megaupload as we speak. Now, 191 MB is a huge file just to be bogus malware, but still, we assume no responsibility if this isn't what it says it is or turns out to be something worse. (It's real)

Eurogamer Review 9/10

Eurogamer.net - September 4, 2008

Submitted by NightWolf (355) at 11:10AM PST on September 4, 2008

"And for all their mighty purpose, the first four phases of the game don't always play brilliantly, and they're too fleeting. The Creature Creator doesn't let you make exactly the creature you want because your survival depends on parts that spoil the look. But the final game is proof that it was all worth it: you're all one big Designer."

Submitted by Mushashi (5) at 2:30AM PST on February 13, 2008

Spore will be released here for PC on 5th September 2008 and in the US two days later on 7th September, EA has confirmed to Eurogamer. Europe first! Woo! EA's since confirmed that Mac, DS and mobile versions will both arrive on that date too. "We're in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can't wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year," Will Wright said in the obligatory release quote.

EA "Bullish" on Spore

Kotaku.com - February 1, 2008

Submitted by RabidRoach (865) at 6:03AM PST on February 1, 2008

Ah, Spore. When the hell are you going to come out and play? Will Wright and his team have been working on it for eons. That's okay, because, hey, we'd rather have it done than half-done. But Electronic Arts says it's planned for "before the holidays" and that the company is "bullish."

Spore Easily Leads Top 10 Torrented Games of 2008

Kotaku - December 7, 2008

Submitted by necron101 (15) at 10:20AM PST on December 7, 2008

TorrentFreak put up a list of the top 10 games copied and shared over BitTorrent for the year 2008, and Spore, quite unsurprisingly, leads them all by a country mile. Naturally, the hard feelings and retaliation over its DRM inclusion helped boost the number of torrents for this game, already downloaded half a million times by 10 days after its September release, and 1.7 million times as of now.
