Finally, online play has been officially confirmed for Brawl. Wifi play will feature both friends mode, which you can use to play with friends whose names you have registered, and random, where you can play against anyone, who will be randomly selected. When playing "With Friends", your names appear over your characters, and you can send short messages by taunting. However, this feature is not available when playing "With Anyone". The details of different modes will be revealed over time, says Sakurai, but the real importance is that online play is officially confirmed. This is probably the most significant update up to this time, and should help to make this game one of the best for a while to come.

The Wii code is actually 16 digits, while the friend codes from the DS games were 12, like shown in the picture.

Yes, it's WONDERFUL news. Now there's no confusion as to whether or not online is in, since there were so many press conferences where there was a hint it was in, but where it could also be taken to mean something else. A lot like Reggie "confirming" Sonic at E3, since he could have also been talking about the players' friends. Also included in this update is the confirmation of friend codes, customization of your icon for online and the existence of 4 pre-entered (by user) taunts that can be used by pressing the various directions on the control pad (only during friends matches, not with just anyone).
