Finally, online play has been officially confirmed for Brawl. Wifi play will feature both friends mode, which you can use to play with friends whose names you have registered, and random, where you can play against anyone, who will be randomly selected. When playing "With Friends", your names appear over your characters, and you can send short messages by taunting. However, this feature is not available when playing "With Anyone". The details of different modes will be revealed over time, says Sakurai, but the real importance is that online play is officially confirmed. This is probably the most significant update up to this time, and should help to make this game one of the best for a while to come.

This official site update confirms that every different Wii controller configuration can be used in Smash Bros. Brawl! The Wiimote on its side (1), Wiimote with nunchuk (2), the Classic Controller (3), and the Gamecube controller (4) can all be used!

"Early sales data from Japanese game site Mantan Web has revealed an initial sales total of around 700,000 for Smash Bros. Brawl over in Japan. The figure covers the first four days of sales, from the Thursday launch through Sunday. The Mantan Web columnist, Taketo Matsuo, an employee of Japan's Tsutaya media retailer, expects the game to top the million mark this week. Full sales numbers should be released later this week."

After just one week on store shelves, Super Smash Bros.® Brawl for Wii has become the fastest-selling video game in Nintendo of America's history. Since its launch on March 9, the feature-packed fighting action game has sold more than 1.4 million units in the United States, including more than 874,000 on March 9 alone. It has sold at a rate of more than 120 units per minute between launch and March 16.

What a way to start off 2008. Today, Nintendo announced that eagerly awaited Wii title Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be delayed until March 9th for North America and January 31st for Japan. The game was originally slated for a January 24th Japanese release and a February 10th North American one.

These are characters who appear to aid the fighter that called them forth. Basically, they're guest characters separate from Smash's playable roster! ... Hammer Bros., the Nintendog from the trailer and Samurai Goro are confirmed as assist trophies.
