This official site update confirms that every different Wii controller configuration can be used in Smash Bros. Brawl! The Wiimote on its side (1), Wiimote with nunchuk (2), the Classic Controller (3), and the Gamecube controller (4) can all be used!

Until now, everyone was worried that the game would be restricted to the GameCube or classic controllers, thereby creating a larger barrier to entry. Surely that's been priced into our prediction so far. However, that's completely gone. Truly anyone with a Wii can play now, so we don't have to worry at all about restrictions anymore.
Not to brag or anything, but I'm pretty sure I called this a little while back. Can't remember where, and I may not have even committed the thought to Internet, but I had the feeling they would at least support Wiimote + Nunchuk. (If I didn't, somebody did. I hope the Wiimote controls work well. With four different control schemes, they may not be able to perfect any of them, and creating Wiimote control schemes require a lot more work than normal control schemes. As Laoldar said, this will be a very competetive game on multiplayer (and online hopefully) and if the Wiimote controls aren't as good as the other control schemes, the Wii's image could really be damaged. Of course, if they do get it right, and the Wiimote controls are just as good (or even better!) than the others, this will be a huge win for Nintendo. "Hardcore" gamers will no longer see the Wiimote as a novelty or fad, but as a practical and reliable controller that could very well render past controllers obsolete.
A lot rests on how good this game's (and Metroid Prime 3's) control schemes are. You better get this right, Nintendo!

Especially since Melee was such a huge hit for tournaments, it'll be interesting to see how the different control schemes work.
How the heck will you be able to control with just the Wiimote on its side? This opens up the possibility of some really unique control ideas while still allowing those who want to stick with the traditional pad to keep it. Plus it avoids the argument that some have used that "The Wii is a gimmick because its biggest game just uses the GC controller".
Easily the biggest revelation since the daily updates started. Hopefully we'll see even more before E3.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 182 ]bids
