Retailer GameStop has begun receiving advertising materials, posting window displays featuring a February 10 release date. That's the same drop date we heard from a KMart employee earlier today. That puts the "cobalt blue" DS street date in sync with the domestic release of Professor Layton and the Curious Village for the portable, both of which should benefit from the side-by-side release.

I agree that the site should be able to detect duplicates and prevent them from being posted. I actually suggested that a long time ago. I haven't followed this situation rg your article very closely but I think Istormy's comment may have been merely out of being upset after the time he took to post that article. I wouldn't take it personally.
I've said in the past & still believe that when a duplicate is posted, particularly by newer members that they should not be downbidded a large amount, just a few downbids (1-3) for a duplicate is enough & (1-2) for a newer user is enough. I recall posting that we should not downbid newer users much because this would give them the wrong message about the community. And despite your initial impressions ReyBrujo the SE is a very nice community in general, only obvious after being here for a long time.
As for people who have had a duplicate posted after them the best response is to just point it out, politely ask the other to take theirs down, and try to remedy any other consequences (such as the Sonic RPG situation where Istormy was actually helpful in fixing even though it did not affect him). Don't react too strongly, it doesn't work on the Internet.
And when things are not exact duplicates it might be best to just let it go. I remember recently posting a new image, which was posted by someone else after me, just by a different link & he got upbids & I got none because it got lost in the shuffle. I decided to ignore it, in part because it was from a different source.

Umm...you really don't seem able to take constructive advice and critisism. Your offhandedness and veiled commentary are tiresome to the nth degree.
Most of the top users here are there a: due to playing for a long time and b: for submitting quality non duplicate postings. There isn't that much to be made with up/down bidding commentary.

I don't think anybody was purposely trying to insult anyone, steal votes or otherwise slight anyone else. I think many of us are gamers who are very passionate about gaming as well as the SimExchange and sometimes that passion gets misinterpreted as anger.

I accept your apologies, and I am sorry for saying what I said. I never meant to do anything wrong here. I was doing the best I could do. However, the community has "rules" that I do not agree with, and they won't change for just a member when there are around 9,000. People will continue downbidding duplicates instead of ignoring them, always "forcing" people to remove them when it is the software that should be doing that.
I understand that, when a story is original you must up bid, when it is duplicate you must down bid, and you will be earning some dkps that, at the end of the day, will keep your account in green. I never downbidded a duplicated like you, but the community does. And it is virtually impossible not to post a duplicate when very few have post so many per day. It is not those people's fault, of course. Everyone spends here as much time as they want to. But as I said, when someone tries to do something and the community punishes him, what he needs to do? I have been a member for almost two months, and could only post five stories. Do you imagine the number of times I was going to post an article and someone else already had? But I never complained. The game, the rules.
As for doing the same in your position, sorry, but I wouldn't. I would never complain because, after spending 3 years in Wikipedia, and 1 as administrator, after being moderator for 3 years in gaming programming forums, after spending a year and a half as a professor at a University, if I learned something was to be tolerant with others. If someone posts a silly question in the programming forum, I would reply as soon as possible before someone else posts a RTFM, just to prevent him from being harassed. At school I would let them call me anytime because I knew they, even in their early twenties, sometimes had questions that their peers may think were stupid. And at Wikipedia, I always take my time to explain the guidelines and policies, never assuming the worst.
I fit as a teacher, I fit as a programmer, I fit as an administrator, but I don't fit here. Nobody fits everywhere, and this is one of those places I don't. It is nobody fault, it is just that. You know, lstormy10 told me (as he says several times per day, I am sure), that there was a duplicate somewhere. I am fine, I know. I bid his story, I have no problem with that. I even write a commentary saying why I posted it here instead of the Nintendo DS place (even though I did not know it was there yet). I tried to tell him that I think the story is important here, and he accuses me of "purposely taking bids that should go to the person who posted the article first" (that is he, of course). What? How can he know for sure that I am "purposely" doing that? What is this? Do everyone here always act that way, assuming the worst immediately?
Yes, for courtesy I was going to take it down. Where was his courtesy when he said I was doing it on purpose?
I notice that if you post a duplicate, the mob jumps on him immediately bidding down. Why? Why he must come, post a link to his story, and bid down? That is not to be a good player. You have over 2000 bids, 150 stories, is there any reason to cat fight over the fifth article of someone else? Will you die for not getting those five bids? Why don't just tell him there is a duplicate and leave it at it. Someone will find the link to his article and will bid there. If the software has no way to easily check for articles and does not check for duplicate links, is it my fault?
I was going to take the article down until he basically called me a thief. What? I post in good faith and he says I am a thief? What is this? And everyone thinks like that. Do people really think I am a thief who purposely steals bids from others? I really want to know.
I am leaving all my posts and articles (they are not many, though, sorry) so that you can all bid down all of them. I don't care.
I am member of many communities, and only in gaming forums people always think you are hiding some mysterious purpose. All I have been trying to do, for the last week, was to reach the 3m mark. I was just 8k away today, now it is unreachable. But I don't care. I don't want to be part of a community where members punish someone for what the software is not able to do, or even for doing good faithed mistakes. Or with people who does not even care to read a full post, just come and bid and continue with the next comment so that they can get more money at the end of the day.

I am sorry about saying that you stole the bids, I did not mean to accuse you, but I believe everyone part of this community would not appreciate it if someone else had posted the exact same article and did remove it after having been notified. Every bid counts for every person on here, no matter the current level/rank/etc.
I see your point in saying that you believed that the article should be discussed in relation to Professor Layton, but the community tends to dislike duplicate postings as they merely take up space and can make it harder to find unique news. The fact that the new color is most likely to be released on February 10 could affect the sales of the DS stock/future, the Layton stock/future, and any other software for the DS being released in the same time frame. I believe, in this situation, a better thing would have been to link to the article from a commment on this stock's page (people would still be able to read the article and it would be brought to the attention to anyone taking time to look at this stock or analyze the current status of the stock).
I have not downbidded you on any occasion yet and I previously made it my own personal policy to not downbid duplicates straight away and give the person time to remove the duplicate as everyone posts duplicates accidently every so often - it cannot be avoided. I do not wish for anyone to leave the community (especially someone that has taken time to climb up into the top 500).

It's a duplicate article. You should take it down. It doesn't matter how many upbids he has relative to you; he got there first, any bids that result from this article should be his. Do you think he's not mad that people are bidding on duplicate articles instead of his? Man up, admit you got beat to the punch, and take the article down. Also, it IS common courtesy to post article in the appropriate thread AND to search before posting so as not to flood the site with duplicate info.

If they are referring to the impact of the release of a new hardware revision for a determined game, why not? Someone who is following Layton may not check Nintendo DS.

As I said above, I believe people who are trading Layton need to know about this speculation. But accusing me of "stealing" your bids? You have done 145 submissions and this is my fifth! Though with that justification, I could post articles multiple times all over the place. For example, I could post this article under Industry News, Nintendo, Layton, and Nintendo DS sections.
It is the exact same article.
Just because an article is posted in one place does not make it okay to post it in another - this only generates a larger volume of duplicate postings all over the place.
You can use articles in different contexts in different places, but that doesn't mean you have to purposely post a duplicate article in another place to use that article. About Us - The simExchange is the video game stock market and the source

The purpose of this idea is to give chance for everyone in the simexchange to get to the community level 7, and get the 3 Million DKP bonus.
Once I reach community level 7, I will do what I suggest above. Community bonus is one of the "easier" way for new member to reach higher networth, and made the "competition" more entertaining and lively, so to speak.
