If the final retail build ships like this, a 20-odd-minute wait and 5GB of HDD space for a cartoon golf game is taking the piss.

the load times between the ps3 and 360 versions for dmc is about 1-2 second different per loading area. it's been "benchmarked" at multiple sites. i dont know if there are enough load times during the game to make up for 22 minutes of install time (need 660 of them to at least break even)
the problem or "feature" isnt that the consoles have hard drives. the xbox1 came standard with hard drives. granted they were only 8gb early on and later upgraded to 10gb. the reason why these ps3 games are getting installs is because of the slow read speed of the bluray drive.
another "solution" i've heard about is developers putting redundant data at multiple parts of the disc for quicker access. however, i haven't done more research than "heard about"[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 148 ]bids

I'm not questioning the validity of the story...just that it isn't news (I guess I mean it isn't new)...HSG has been out for months and this 'problem' is well known.
Developers are going to have to build in story arcs etc and perhaps limited playability during these installs to lessen their impact BUT they are going to become the norm IMO for the PS3 and any future console that includes HDD space (which I would think would be all).
DMC4 for PS3 has a MANDATORY install that takes approx 20minutes...for that the game has near zero load times in game (which would lead to a more satisfying gaming experience?) compared to the 360 version. Not sure why this is news since this game has been out in Japan for months with this install 'issue' in place. Every PS3 has a hard drive and they are consumer upgradeable with generic drives...this is the future of console gaming according to many as future consoles will have no cartridge/optical drive and will be download only.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 475 ]bids
