game sales being lackluster doesn't mean there isn't a demand for it. it is well known that piracy on psp is both easy and widespread. i don't actually know how much psp piracy is going on in japan. however, i do know that japan gobbles up monster hunter and final fantasy. just because the software sales aren't there doesn't mean people aren't playing the games.

In regards to saturation, I meant more in the realm that is why DS sales have decreased a little bit, but have still maintained good numbers. DS hasn't seen a big title in the past month or so for Japan, so that could be why PSP has gone above DS.
The fact that the media capabilities of the PSP are currently being a bit bigger of a factor in Japan is interesting to look into.[ Oracle ] [ Level 20 ] [ Rank: 294 ]bids

You are wrong. Those 2 game are NOT the cause of PSP H/W increase. I don't know why this (sales increase) happen, but I know for sure it is not caused by the games, since PSP games sales are still anemic / lackluster, except the 2 games you mentioned.
I think most people bought PSP and treat them like "Walkman", but that still doesn't explain why iPOD sales in Japan is strong. Anyone have the figure of iPOD sales in the last three month (since Dec 07) ? If we can compare iPOD sales before and after PSP H/W sales increase (or after PSP Slim release), then we should be able to determine whether it is really caused by multimedia player capabilities of PSP.
For those thinking about saturation, remember that DS weekly sales of 45K is still very high (compared to any H/W not named DS / DSL).
It is very interesting to see how long PSP can maintain their > DSL weekly rate. I think by May or by June it probably dropped to < DSL weekly.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]bids

Japan got the new Mint Green PSP on February 28th, 2008. So that probably boosted numbers somewhat. However, even before that release PSP sales in Japan seem to be trending higher and have held up well since the holidays. Japanese sales these past few months are definitely higher than 2007. I am going to be a little humorous here, but maybe Nintedo has already sold a DS to everyone in Japan, so now they have to rely on people buying multiple ones and babies being given their first DS.
Seriously though, the DS does have a high saturation point in Japan. Though I think if DS sales start to consistently underperform in Japan, Nintendo will go ahead and find some way to boost them (via price cut, new colors, bundles, etc).[ Oracle ] [ Level 20 ] [ Rank: 294 ]bids

Maybe my wording is a little bit too strong, so I apologize.
You are venturing into the realm of "possibilities" with your "just because the software sales aren't there doesn't mean people aren't playing the games". The same thing can be said for NDS with the R4, and it is even easier to download NDS ROM, since the size of the games is much smaller than PSP games.
I admit that there are pirate possibilities, but I believe more in the "multimedia capability" theory, or in other theory, such as "skype" or "TV Tuner". Pirate theory is the last resort, AFTER I have exhausted other possibilities.
About lime green, I remember that I was once attracted to the limited edition Lime Green color GCN (IIRC, it is Tales of Symphonia bundles), but I managed to resist them. Couldn't resist Crimson/black and Cobalt/black. I got Crimson/black, and I have plan to buy Cobalt/black in the future (to complement my Navy Blue DSL, and replace my 2 DS)
