Does NPD usually track sales through digital distribution? I mean, I was under the impression that Sony, Microsoft and even Valve keep those stats internally -- it seem like the only time they surface is when any given company needs a good PR.

1So GT5 for April is not going to contain digital download sales? If I had known that I would not have bought so many shares :( Probably lost a lot of dkp this month. 1Software sales are a bit lower but inline with what I expected. With one exception being GT5, but I don't know if Sony release the sale stats for digital distribution. I expected sales be higher, and they might have been through PSN.
With that said, Hardware numbers are really, really surprising. Wii is doing good, in line with expectation. However, PS3 and Xbox 360 sales -- sigh, I expected at worst possible scenario a 5% boost for X360 from March and at least 25% for PS3.
Given the momentum PS3 had at the start of year, with release of GTA4 and looming release of MGS4... I really didn't expect to see such drop.
Still, Sony over all did pretty good on hardware level, PS2 and surprisingly PSP have strong numbers.

Apart from a very small short of Wii hardware at 74DKP I left it well alone this month, with very good reason by the looks of it. I'm STAGGERED by the PS360 numbers. No GTA:IV bump at all.
If platform holder PR is to be believed, next-gen hardware Wii asides must have been doing horribly all month.

I think there was dicussion about digital download sales for GT5: Prologue.
But for future reference for futures (no pun intended) for everyone, NPD does not count any digital distribution sales of titles for the monthly sales numbers - one of the reasons many PC games do not make NPD overall software charts. NPD may add digital sales in the future, but as of now, no digital download sales are counted or have ever been counted.
