@vGInfidel, You didn't mention Elite ? Does it mean that it was no longer available (I am asking since I don't really follow up those models) ? Don't forget about Halo unit (I am not sure whether it is only green skin, or if there is some subtle difference between it and Elite). PS3, AFAIK, that have backward compatibility is no longer available as stand alone purchase (only as part of bundle).
Personally, I find both PS3 and X360 choice as confusing, especially for common people. You might not find it confusing, since you follow the up them closely. Even though I play lots of game, I am slightly confused with those choices. I prefer something simple, like PS2, XBOX, NDS and Wii. All I have to do for them is choose the color I like. I prefer one single SKU, and plethora of peripheral. It also made it simple at the retail level (stocking simplicity). Imagine you wanted to buy a certain model, and then it was sold out at your favorite shop. You then have to settle for different choice, or go to another shop, which is a pain.
