Developer Bethesda has made changes to the Japanese Fallout 3. The side-quest The Power of the Atom has been changed. Non-playable-character Mr. Burke has been taken out of this side-quest, removing the option of detonating the nuclear bomb. That's not all, the name of a weapon was changed as it was deemed "inappropriate" for Japan.
Released just last Tuesday for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Games for Windows platform, Bethesda has shipped an estimated 4.7 million copies of the game to retail outlets all across North America and the UK, representing retail sales of more than $300 million - that's a million times the amount of money I have in my bank account right now. Of course those are shipping numbers, but the sales have been flowing quite nicely as well.
The game has outsold combined sales (UK) in the region of the original Fallout and its sequel, and spin-off titles Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.
First week sales were also 57 per cent stronger than the first week performance of Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
According to data from GfK Chart-Track, 55 per cent of all sales were on the Microsoft format, 28 per cent on Sony's home console and 17 per cent for the PC.
@Noobcrusher, Since Oblivion is a high sales # game, VGC # might be not too far off (probably margin of error is less than 50%, it might even be something like 20% margin of error). I don't have Oblivion LTD figure, but I will try to find it for you (If I can, I will also provide URL if possible).
Does anyone have a reliable number on just how many copies the 360 version of Oblivion sold, including the Game of the Year version? I can only find Vgchartz numbers. I think it's pretty relevant to how Fallout 3 will sell.
Vgchartz said Oblivion sold 2.57 million copies on the 360, I don't know how accurate that is, though.
If I am a conspiracy theorist, I would say that someone from Sony contacted IGN :)
BTW, when I go to neocrisis.com URL you quoted, I got this : This site is temporarily unavailable. Please notify the System Administrator. Jazzking2001@gmail.com
IGN seems to have changed their review of the PS3....
The talk about friend logging in causing the game to slow down and screen bluring has been removed from the review AND the PS3 owners getting the shaft remark about trophies is gone too.
"Bethesda's previous release, "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion," was my runner-up for game of the year in 2006. I doubt "Fallout 3" will have to settle for second place in 2008; I can't imagine a more satisfying adventure coming out this year. Four stars out of four."
