Spore expected to sell 3-5 million in 2008

GamesIndustry - February 18, 2008

Submitted by deftangel (291) at 3:16PM PST on February 18, 2008

Although most people seem to agree there's a healthy anticipation building around Spore, there's also some feeling that its publisher EA must manage expectation about its performance and appeal. A range of analysts provided sales estimates to the end of this year of between 3 and 5m units, and a healthy revenue target of around USD 250m. "I think Spore will do at least 3m units as a packaged product, and if it's as good as it looks, it has the potential to do twice that," said Michael Pachter.

'Spore' doing well in first week

CNET - September 12, 2008

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 3:39PM PST on September 13, 2008

In its first week on the market, Spore seems to be holding its own at retail. In interviews with retailers across the country, there is ample anecdotal evidence that the game is doing well, especially for a PC title. However, its initial sales don't appear to be in the same ballpark as massive hits like Grand Theft Auto IV, from Rockstar Games, Guitar Hero III, from Activision or Wii Fit, from Nintendo.
