DRM Testing by Ars Technica

Arstechnica - September 16, 2008

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 4:37AM PST on September 17, 2008

While the issue of the install limit is a touchy one, it doesn't look like a normal install will do much to use up your limit, and in fact we surpassed the install limit by a few times before running into an issue. Even after being told that we were "renting" the game, EA was happy to give us a new key to run the game. In this case, customer service wins, and we left wondering if the DRM controversy might be more philosophical in nature than rooted in any real-world inconveniences.

During our time at E3 last week, we were able to spend about an hour with a very patient Maxis Producer Thomas Vu, who guided us through a near-final build of Spore (the whole thing) and answered a barrage of questions.

Next-Gen Spore Preview

Next-Gen.biz - October 17, 2007

It is a worry that, in trying to cover so many different gametypes, the promise of each will be reduced. Spore’s central and ingeniously implemented selling point is the editor which enables the creation of so much in its world – but if this world is then only periodically engaging in its behavior, Maxis may have created a briefly brilliant toy rather than a enduringly entertaining game.

EA: Spore Will Ship When It's Done

Next-Gen.Biz - August 1, 2007

Submitted by Butterball (1049) at 10:39AM PST on August 2, 2007

Electronic Arts reaffirmed that it will be releasing Will Wright's Spore sometime in the early fiscal 2009 timeframe, but added that the game won't release before it's absolutely finished. CEO John Riccitiello said [or perhaps bragged?] during a conference call Wednesday that both him and EA Games president Frank Gibeau are both playing Will Wright's hotly anticipated Spore and are "enjoying it a great deal."
