The latest Game Informer reports that Spore has been "delayed indefinitely", but reached for comment today, Electronic Arts says that "Spore has slipped out of fiscal 08 and into fiscal 09". Either way you cut it, it means that the game we've all been waiting to play on our computers isn't coming anytime soon.

Fiscal 09 is in april, so really, it didn't get pushed back at all. The rumor is April 3 I think, and this announcement is basically "confirming it". Vaporware is a software or hardware product which is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge, either with or without a protracted development cycle. The term implies unwarranted optimism, or sometimes even deception; that is, it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility.
By calling it vaporware, I do not say it will not be released, or will follow the same story as Duke Nukem. Doom 3 was vaporware for many years, as was Half Life 2, and both eventually was released.
The reason I called it vaporware, for all those who like to down bid on negative news, is because Spore's development began in 2000, was announced and demonstrated in 2005, and it was pushed back to 2008. Now, we can expect it in Fiscal year 2009, if everything gets back on track. Which, I really dont expect it then either.

I doubt that the videos that Will showed were pre-renders, so we can only assume that much of the game is completed as far as underlying code.
My guess is that they're trying to release it concurrently with a few platforms and they're pushing the PC date so they can have others ready at the same time. Bad move, guys.
The other possibility, and one I actually find more plausable, is that they're trying to put TOO MUCH content in. This is already a gigantic game as far as content, but I'm guessing that they're trying to include all kinds of quests and goals and such. My suggestion would be to wrap up the current things they're on and get it releaseable, then add on additional content later through downloads.
