@kspraydad, I'd say it would only become date after years, when the next Olympics arrive. This game should do huge sales this holiday, have a longtail, and then surge in sales during the Olympics next summer.
I think its going to be a fun game to play because of the mario type spin they put on the games. They made soccer fun with strikers and tennis fun with the tennis game. So i really dont know how they can lose with this game (unless its a hardcore button masher type or a flailing your arms about).
What are your thoughts on the Olympic tie in...I'm sure it will help up to the Olympics but after does it not become a hinderance as it 'dates' the game?
This should probably be in the 260-310DKP range, as I think Sega is being slightly optimistic, though, the article says that Sonic Heroes sold a million copies in Europe alone, so it might be possible for this game, over the course of several years to be able to sell this many copies. Also, if they expect it to sell this well, I assume they will market the game heavily and supply retail chains with many units even before it is released. Also, if this game is good (which most previews seem to indicate it is), it could end up having a much longer tail and sell like New Super Mario Bros, Animal Crossing, Wii Sports or Brain Age do, keep selling years after it has come out. So from this, I think over this game's lifetime, a 260-310DKP range does not seem unrealistic.
@Workwork, @Workwork, Also, as you can see, the better quality recent Sonic games can still sell a lot of copies, more copies than the current prediction for this game, even on platforms like the GC.
@Workwork, I think the game can do that well or better. I wouldn't be surprised to see it over 90. Nintendo is not going to let its characters get put into a mediocre game, they're helping develop it afterall. It was voted best Wii game at Leipzig, it may utilize the Wii zapper, & may have 1:1 swordplay. Sales should be great * have a long tail, increasing again when the Olympics take place.
@Workwork, Yes it does. The reason recent Sonic games were busts is because they were all very bad games. You can see fans of Sonic comment on the internet all the time that they're hoping the next Sonic game will actually be good. So that clearly shows they still follow Sonic games (esp despite the downward trend in quality) & would love to see one that is actually good. And among sites like gamefaqs that do popularity contests on game characters, Sonic is still one of the most popular. 2006 In addition Sonic will gain even more popularity once Sonic RPG launches from Bioware, which will probably be excellent.
