I have a strong feeling Devil May Cry going multi platform has nothing to do with Sony's sinking ship.
Capcom did this for 2 reasons. PS3s install base won't be near the 360s for a little while longer. Lost Planet and Deadrising have both done well on the 360.
They gotta make the money! Not enough sales, not enough money.
It sounds like Capcom had been preparing to ditch Sony for a while as they announced Devil May Cry 4 will release on PS3, XBox 360, and PC simultaneously. They already had been working on those versions in parallel to the PS3 version.
I speculate they wanted to partner with Sony on this but had a plan B just so they don't go down with the ship. They watched what Sony was doing with the PS3 for a while and managed a contingency project in the meantime. With the PS3's weak February numbers, it looks like Capcom made the right decision.
