VGC estimates 890,000 sales at this point. The game hasn't been on NPD charts since, so I don't think it has added significantly since your post. At this point 6 months after release, the games sales are most likely topping out. For that reason, 1.4 million units sold forecast is probably too high.
Firstly, I think this is 1 million shipped, not sold.
According to the article, NPD says the game sold 412,000 from release to 31st July in the US. This is interesting because we can use it to work out how much the game sold in July - we know it sold 372k in June as it made the NPD top 10 for that month. So, the game sold 40k in July, and I doubt it sold more than that in August, so the game is probably at <500k in the US.
Now, the 40% of sales in the US figure. I don't buy that at all. I don't know if it comes directly from MS, or if the Gamespot reporter has just taken the 1 million shipped number and NPD's 412k sold number, and come up with 40% sold in the US; most likely it's the latter. If that's the case, the stat is useless. (If anyone has access to MS's official press release, maybe they could clarify this.)
The idea that ~50% of the game's sales have been in Europe, when the US is a much stronger market for the 360, does not seem credible to me. I was also under the impression that the NG series is more popular in the US.
Basically, my argument here is: 1) This is 1 million shipped, not sold. 2) The 40% sold in the US stat is wrong. The percentage is probably much higher. 3) Actual sales in the US are currently <500k, if NPD is correct.
At this stage I doubt the game is going to move too many more copies. I do not think this news should have caused a jump in the stock price.
Microsoft released a Ninja Gaiden 2 DLC on July 25th, that included Mission Modes for 800 MS Points. Since there have been reports of achievement bugs and freezing issues, the DLC was removed from the marketplace. It was later rereleased on July 30th along with a system update that was suppose to repair the issues reported.
Microsoft announced today that it will be releasing 25 new missions for Ninja Gaiden II on Xbox 360, which is said to be the "equivalent to a whole new campaign mode".
@Rol83,Does someone know the exact date of release of NGII in the UK? I see the game starting at nber 7 which seems low to me considering that it's a rather hard core game.
I think at this point it might be good idea to start debating on whether the game will actually clear 1mil. :)
As for Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) sales, there was talk on sales of the original on 1up, I believe at the time of the announcement or sales of Sigma... I honestly don't recall.
@Neisan, Who has a clue about total sales on Ninja Gaiden on XBox? I guess it should be around 1.5M (not sure). But do we really believe that this one can reach 2.5M with it's extreme difficulty and relatively low scores?
