Unless Rock Band 2 is coming out on the Wii I don't know how much it will affect Rock Band sales on the Wii.
Guitar Hero: World Tour may affect Rock Band sales, but until we have a ballpark figure of how well this game will sell on the Wii I don't think we can speculate on whether 2 million is too high or not. Personally I think it likely that Rock Band will follow a similar sales pattern to Guitar Hero III on the Wii, relatively slow but steady sales for an extended period of time that add up to massive sales for the game.
I think the price of this game is too high. The fact that Rock Band 2 (on X360) will come out on Oct 2008, coupled with GH:World Tour release on Nov 2008 (including Wii Version), I don't think this game can reach it's full potential.
If there are no influence from the above mentioned 2 factors, this game could reach 2 Million. Under the current circumstances, I think it will be lucky to reach 1.3 Million GLS, my best case / most optimistic GLS calculation.
Not surprisingly, the axes look and feel like the peripherals that shipped with other versions of the game, save for a few Wii-specific buttons (a plus and a minus on the guitar's "knobs," for instance). But if you don't like how the Rock Band guitars feel and would rather use Activision's Guitar Hero III wireless guitar, too bad -- it doesn't seem to work with Rock Band for the Wii.
Cambridge, Mass. based developer Harmonix is working with Rez HD and Lumines developer Q Entertainment to bring Rock Band to Japan. Tokyo's Q Entertainment will "heavily localize" Rock Band for the Japanese market by featuring local musical acts, according to a statement from Harmonix.
@apujanata, GH3's guitar will not work with Rock Band on the Wii. The GH3 guitar relies upon the Wii-mote to connect with the Wii and the Rock Band guitar relies upon a USB dongle to connect to the Wii. The two are incompatible.
@Laoldar, "Since GH4 will be coming out around the same time as Rock Band"
I wouldn't put GH4's end of 2008 and RB Wii's June 22 as "around the same time".
I agree with your GH4 compatibility with GH3 factor which could be important, but has it been confirmed yet that GH3's guitar didn't work with Rock Band ? I ask this since I didn't play and follow GH3 & Rock Band.
If this is true, I find it amazing (and a little bit stupid), since peripheral compatibility is important for wide-spread adoptation.
I said "GH4", not "GH3" so your argument doesn't make much sense.
Also, about 2-3 million people have bought GH3 for the Wii. If you buy GH4, your guitar will work with it and you'll have four instruments...if you buy Rock Band, the GH3 controller won't work. Compatibility could matter.
Since GH4 will be coming out around the same time as Rock Band, it's the real competition for it, not GH3.
Currently, Guitar Hero only allows 2 people to play together with guitar instruments. Rock Band allows upto 4 people to play together with 2 guitars, a drum and a singer which is the probable reason why some players would prefer it over Guitar Hero. This will change when GH4 is released later this year as it will allow the same number of players and instruments to be used together.
Rock Band is also much more expensive than buying current Guitar Hero games.
@Laoldar, What is the difference between GHIII and Rock Band ? The only thing I know is that Rock Band play other instrument, not just guitar, but I am not sure what kind of other instrument is available (I know RB has drums).
Is there a compelling reason for most people to pick Rock Band over GHIII ? I don't see any fun playing drums.
Agreed, especially with how this game is just a crippled PS2 port.
GH4 will have pretty much every feature that Rock Band decided to not bother putting in...so why would people bother? I suppose the soundtrack, but is there anything else?
