Although I also see this as a pretty undervalued stock price, I'm concerned about the name recognition and user-friendliness. Unlike PGR were it is very easy to pick up and play, Forza seemed (to me at least) a much more deep and difficult game to jump right into.
I'm not sure whether casual gamers want to have 2 different driving simulations, and I don't know whether racing games are as popular as other genres. Having said that, I believe it will easily sell 1.5 million copies at least, purely because of the hardcore 360 gamers and hype that surrounds it.
I agree with Ivanv4, this stock at current times seems very undervalued. Also, seeing how this game is coming out in May, it might be what some gamers view as a game to tide them over for the summer month's.
The original game sold over 1 million copies and at that time it was an unknown franchise and the Xbox did not have the steam that it has now. With the Xbox360 on track to outsell the original Xbox in less that 2 years, I would not be surprised to see this game pick up steam.
This game is everything Microsoft is pushing for the Xbox360: it looks beautiful, from videos it looks to play well and it has a lot of online offerings. I see around a 2 million lifetime copies sold.
I guess this one could easily double the amount of projected sales.
Reasons, this one has more consumer awareness than the prequel bc the e3 showoff of last year, second the lack of a compresive racing sim on Xbox 360, the void left for next year for GT 5, the racing wheel as previously mention before and the way its online component is ennhancing the experience
I think that the biggest selling point of this game for me is that the Xbox 360's first party steering wheel was developed along with it. I've played all kinds of racing games using the wheel and everything (except PGR3) let me down.
The steering wheel came bundled with PGR3, and with good reason. PGR3 really demonstrates how good the force feedback and sensitivity is. I was pretty amazed at how different cars very obviously handled differently while using the wheel. Knowing that the wheel was developed to work seamlessly with FM2 makes me really excited to play it. That along with the excellent graphics makes immersion almost complete.
Riekert & BlackMagix, thanks for posting...finally hearing some arguments of substance for why this stock is a buy. I think the screen shots look great and the features sound enticing--we'll have to see how it is marketed when it comes out. I'm not a racing fan so maybe that's why I've never heard of this.
Hmm, yeah, some people just need to look at the fundamentals of a stock before dissing it. The stats on this game are incredible: 70 tracks, 300 cars, amazing graphics and one of the sole racing games on a leading console. This game will do exceptionally well.
Riekert, ah I didn't think to check world sales for an Xbox game. I didn't think anyone outside of North America cared about Xbox.
Black Magix, you make a lot of good points but I would hardly say the game is that undervalued if the original sold 1 million copies. At best it is undervaluing an end stock value by 20 DKP.
There are much better opportunities to make money, such as FFXII priced at 423 when we already have the numbers that it has sold 4 million copies. This stock is probably undervalued by 200 DKP with hard sales numbers already available. Then there's Madden on 360 which we already know has sold more than 1 million copies yet is priced at 130.
Forza 2, like many games on here, is still betting on sales of previous games. There are much better opportunities where games with hard sales numbers are undervalued or overvalued. Even for games not out, its been pointed out at GT games sell way more than 2 million copies while its only priced around 210 here. I think the financial people say you have to discount the price due to opportunity cost of other better investments right now.
#1 – So you are trying to tell me that, Forza Motorsport 2 will ONLY sell 844k copies when the original sold ONE MILLION under harder circumstances. Laughable!
#3 – GT5 lacks Force Feedback now if you go to ANY Gran Turismo forum you will see that there are people who will be jumping ship and picking up Forza Motorsport 2 for this reason alone.
#4 – Forza Motorsport sold more than ONE MILLION copies sold under less than ideal circumstances. Forza Motorsport was the last AAA title to be released on the original Xbox, and at the time there was already substantial hype for the Xbox 360. Yet they still managed to ship over one million copies. GT4 also released around the same time.
#5 – Hardware sales
Xbox 360 has sold 10.4 million units and the projected sales for FM2 are a measly 844k.
PS3 has sold 1 million units, and they CANNOT shift PS3’s from store shelves at the moment and they are projected to sell 2.17 million copies of Gran Turismo 5.
*cough* whatever *cough*
The Forza Motorsport 2 stock IS simply the most undervalued stock on this site at the moment.
Forza was designed to be the Xbox competitor for Gran Turismo. The original Forza had to compete with the Gran Turismo franchise on the strong Playstation 2 platform and still managed to sell an impressive 1 million copies.
However, the Xbox 360 is currently in a stronger position against the PS3 (with Gran Turismo 5) than the original Xbox was against the PS2 (with Gran Turismo 4) when the original Forza was released. Many gamers looking for a racing simulation for a current generation console will look to get Forza 2. This should result in Forza 2 selling more than its predecessor.
