Ubisoft Announces Imagine Rock Star

Ubisoft has announced a new game in its Imagine DS series for girls, titled Imagine Rock Star, which allows players to simulate a music career. In Imagine Rock Star, players select who plays the drums, guitar, bass and piano, and each instrument is controlled differently using the DS stylus. Each musician is customizable with various styles, and gameplay revolves around performing in concerts, earning money and climbing the charts. Players can also play wirelessly with up to four friends.

Ubisoft urges Sony to act on 'directionless' PSP

UK managing director Rob Cooper has said that the format lacks direction, with Sony unsure of how to market a machine he sees as over-priced and too technical for the mainstream consumer. Cooper doesn't think it's an issue with software pricing, rather Sony hasn't communicated to publishers clearly what direction the machine is going to take in the future. Ubisoft has no games planned for the PSP this year, but Cooper insists the format still has potential.

How different will Ubisoft's first next-gen Prince of Persia be from its well-known and well-established predecessors? Answer: Really, really different -- at least if a recent preview by French publication Joypad (via Eurogamer) is to be believed. As a matter of fact the title is shaping up to be so radically dissimilar from anything seen in the franchise before that it probably constitutes a complete reboot for the popular but now somewhat passé Prince.

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has said that the firm must "continue to grow at a rapid pace in the years to come" to remain competitive - revealing he has up to 780m Euros (or $1.2bn) to spend on acquiring studios or publishers which will grow the company. To make sure the firm isn't left behind, Ubisoft is also prepared to buy companies that will maintain its rapid growth.

Ubisoft has released sales figures for its best-selling franchises, with Rayman and Tom Clancy titles topping the list. Of Ubisoft's best-known franchises, the Rayman series has topped 22 million units sold worldwide, while last year's new IP Assassin’s Creed has already shifted an impressive six million units.

As part of their first quarter report, Ubisoft revealed what each platform contributed to their bottom line, as compared to last year. Overall, the Nintendo DS continues to be Ubisoft’s main source of revenue, but the Wii and Xbox 360, compared to last year, also saw strong sales results.
