Here's what's interesting: the CPU, GPU and eDRAM die all seem to have gotten smaller, but at different rates. The CPU sees the biggest reduction in size, the new core being about 75% the size of the old one, while both GPU components are around 85% the size of their predecessors.

Xbox 360 Hit With More 'Disc Scratch' Lawsuits

InformationWeek - July 25, 2007

Submitted by yamaro (94) at 5:57AM PST on July 26, 2007

In the past week, two more lawsuits have been filed claiming that the Xbox 360 leaves irreparable scratches on game discs -- bringing the total number of such cases to at least four. All four suits are seeking class action status. A Microsoft spokesman told InformationWeek that the company has not received a significant number of complaints about scratched discs, despite the fact that "there are millions of Xbox consoles in use." Some bloggers have suggested that the scratches occur only when the Xbox 360 is moved from the horizontal to the vertical position while in use. Others, however, report that their games were damaged while the consoles were stationary.

Microsoft have announced a price drop for the US HD DVD addon for the Xbox 360 to $179 (US only) and Toshiba are throwing in 5 Free HD DVD's up until September. Sounds like a good deal and leads nicely into the peak selling period.
