Xbox 360 sales predictably spike in UK after price drop

Joystiq - September 1, 2009

Submitted by afsplat (25) at 2:06PM PST on September 1, 2009

GfK Chart-Track notes the Xbox 360 had a 43 percent sales increase over the weekend in the UK, following the price drop which sent the console's Elite version to a friendlier £199. With Sony's PS3 Slim model expected to hit the region this week, it'll be interesting to compare the percentage increase in sales for both consoles. We'd prefer actual sales numbers instead of percentages, but that's apparently not happening.

It is understood that Germany is not a bigger games market than the UK. This is the second time in as many weeks that GfK Chart-Track data has been publicly questioned. Last week, Nintendo contacted GamesIndustry.biz following confusion over UK sales figures for the first half of the year.

Analyst: July NPD To -22% As Console Price Pressure Mounts

Gamasutra - August 10, 2009

Submitted by apujanata (4) at 5:44PM PST on August 10, 2009

Prepare for a fifth consecutive month of NPD declines, warns Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. The damage should be a little lessened over June's concussive 31 percent gap, however; Pachter forecasts July to ring in 22 percent lower than the same month in 2008. Wedbush estimates sell-through figures in units of 305,000 Wii, 190,000 Xbox 360, and 135,000 PlayStation 3 consoles -- a 36% year-over-year unit decline for July hardware.
