With business failing and stores closing all over the country, GameStop reports record sales and earnings for 2008, and expects the trend to continue this year with plans to open 400 more stores. With 2008 sales rising 24.4% over last year to $8.8 billion dollars, GameStop laughs at our puny economic recession.

Micheal Pachter foresees a world without console wars, calling the current crop of hardware "the last generation of consoles." The ballsy claim was made during GamesBeat 2009, a conference going on in parallel to GDC, where the Wedbush Morgan analyst reportedly declared that the future belonged to a "standard delivery platform" instead.

Wired have published a series of charts provided by the NPD Group, which show the games that finished 11-20 on the monthly sales charts, as well as the ten best selling games for each platform. Including the Game Boy Advance. As a bonus, you'll even find at the end the ten best-selling peripherals or accessories.

Through February 2009, Nintendo's DS and Wii continued to dominate hardware sales while software for those systems continued to rule the top software lists, according to the latest NPD Group data released on Thursday. Microsoft's Xbox 360 built momentum from its strong showing in January, and also made a strong showing the top 20 software. Meanwhile Sony's platforms uniformly lost ground, although the exclusive Killzone 2 made a strong showing on the PlayStation 3 with only two days of sales.

Gameloft Sells 2M iPhone Games

Gameloft sold more than 2 million of their 27 iPhone games on the App Store in eight months, helping to push the mobile game publisher's revenue up 15 percent in 2008.

Resident Evil 5 became the fastest selling game in the franchise. X360 claims 55% of sales while PS3 accounts for 45%. It represents 27.1% of all revenue from console games this week. Sales of RE 5 are slightly more than the combined sales of all the remaining All Formats Top 10 titles. RE5 on PS3 has outsold RE4's PS2 launch week by 3.22 to 1. Last week's No1 'Empire: Total War' drops to No8 (sales down 70%). All other Top 10 titles lose sales.
