‘Wii Fit’ flexes its muscles at the top of the All Formats chart this week, giving Nintendo a very healthy complexion thanks to the 6th fastest selling UK debut ever (only bettered by GTA, Halo and Gran Turismo titles).
The fitness game was launched on Friday, bundled with a balance board accessory at a price of £69.99 and was bought by roughly 1 in 10 Wii console owners over its first 2 days of release.

Way before, got announced last summer (the release date was October then). T2 has really money problems, banks didn't want to finance them more, or at least at really bad conditions. So a free loan was welcomed (and it is really a loan from MS). Without these 50 Million I doubt they could have been delayed GTA, and it seems the time has served them well, seeing the review scores. Oh the deal was clear: It stays exclusive! And T2 took it, since they really needed cash for the flow ;) Doesn't help you having GTA4 near finished and go bankrupt before it comes, does it?

IIRC, the 50 Million is not payment for exclusiveness of DLC. It is pre-payment (advance payment) for DLC, in which Microsofot doesn't have to pay a penny to T2 (Rockstar), until their DLC revenue share have exceeded $ 50 Million.
I believe that $ 50 Million is more like incentive for T2 to develop DLC for X360, or to make the DLC content time exclusive on X360, not as payment to make the DLC exclusive forever on X360.
About the $50 Million as advance payment, you can browse GTA IV comment (forgot whether it is for X360 one or PS3 one), and you can decide yourself whether you believe it or not.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]bids

I would say the PS3 is already doing pretty well here, the UK games market seems to be in fairly rude health. I think GTA:IV will give it a boost but the recent price cut on the 360 creates a very compelling offer for those who wanted to "Jump in" right now, it's cheaper than a Wii.
I expect them to be more or less neck and neck for the rest of the year.
As for the DLC, $50m is pretty much unprecedented. They've been waving about it since 2006 and I don't think they're dumb enough to pay that much money and make that much noise only for it to bite them on the ass later. Once the price becomes acceptable, the PS3 will thrive in the UK. If they do come up with a price drop soon, I think we'll see the rise of the PS3 this year. BTW This is a prediction, not a rabid fan boy comment!

Wasn't GTA a Sony exclusive... until it appeared on the PC and Xbox? I can't imagine that content will stay exclusive forever. Maybe it will... but unless someone has a copy of the contract, I guess no-one knows for sure. Wouldn't you put a time limit on it... if it was your IP? The UK is the 360's second strongest territory. It just so happens the PS3 is also doing pretty well relative to it's performance in other countries.
It's beaten out the original Xbox by miles over here and the install base (not far off 2m) is still significantly bigger than the PS3. The present difference in weekly sales is negligible. A PS3 price drop will close the gap, but it's not going to result in PS3 dominance for quite some time.
GTA:IV is going to push hardware for both systems. The PS3 isn't getting the DLC either, I really don't know where the speculation comes from. MS didn't pay $50m for nothing.

For the core, hearts and minds are behind Sony. Obviously Nintendo have the casual sewn up (like they do in every territory). The only thing currently holding back the PS3 is the price tag, which I'm sure will drop soon.
What I will be very interested to see is how many people buy a PS3 to play GTA. The Play station family / brand is very strong in this country and always has been.
While I personally bought a PS3 for GTA and don't really care that much for the 360 "episodes", no doubt many will. The coming months numbers will be very interesting for me...
Will all the money MS spent on the exclusive content deal be worth it? Will the PS3 get the DLC after a while?

Then there's preferred control scheme / input. As GTA's home has been Sony for so many years, people naturally feel comfortable playing it with a Playstation controller. I know one of my friends purchased a PS style controller, when he got GTA:SA for his gaming laptop.
I know these sound like silly reasons but I think people underestimate how well GTA will do on the PS3.
TBH I think the best reasons to get it on the PS3 is the free online multiplay and improved loading times from the HDD install.
