Alan Wake tells the story of a best selling horror author whom based his first book on strange dreams he had prior to meeting his fiancé. His book is a success but his fiancé mysteriously vanishes. Wake is devastated and suffers from insomnia. He moves out to a small town in Washington state where he gets treatment from a sleep clinic. Wake meets a woman who is the spitting image of his fiancé and his dreams return, inspiring him to write a second book. However, as he writes, the town begins to change and resemble the horror story he is writing.

Max Payne developer Remedy Entertainment has issued a new trailer and screenshots from its psychological action-adventure effort Alan Wake (PC, 360). The studio has yet to say when the project will be released, though it was first unveiled in 2005. Upon its eventual arrival, Microsoft will publish.

Alan Wake PC plans 'up in the air'

Further doubt has been cast on Alan Wake's timely arrival on PC ... if he ever shows up at all. Following up on a Remedy forum post, which put the mouse and keyboard edition to the back of the line, Edge discovered the PC version is in an even more precarious state than first thought. Sam Lake, lead writer for Alan Wake, told the site that the Xbox 360 version is currently getting all the attention and plans "are up in the air and open." He added, "Once we get this version done we'll see."

With the Xbox 360 version of Remedy's Alan Wake now sporting a May 18 release date, publisher Microsoft has confirmed that the "pyschological action thriller" will not hit PC.
