"low production costs and high prices, and i dont blame them tbh"
I don't agree with low production cost, since it implied that things break down easily, and in my experience, Nintendo's Hardware didn't break easily. I agree with high prices, which is a relative point of view (if you don't feel the worth, it is high prices. If you think it is worthy, you don't think it is high prices).
"(Yes i know that XboxLive has a subscription fee where as PSN doesnt but i happily pay that fee as the service is generally so good and from my view completely worth it. I would much rather pay for XBL than have to put up with PSN.)"
IMO, I am happy with Nintendo's free online service for Mario Kart Wii, so my son can play online without me having to pay a monthly fee. I am even more happy with the friend code restriction Nintendo have, so I can control my son's online experience (especially after hearing the horror of XBOX Live online experience from internet and my friend).
As a youngster, you might prefer paying XBOX Live monthly fee. As parent, I prefer Free online and full control by me. Too much freedom in youngster this day bring them drugs, free sex etc. You might not agree with my latest statement, but as a parent with three children, I believe it is my duty to protect (just not control) my children. Which is why IF there is X360 and PS3 in my household, I would definitely not allow my children to go online with it (just like I didn't allow my children to access internet through PC without my supervision / accompanied by me).
