You missed the point of why this is going to do very well, and the thesis of my argument. Just because a single game overtook the Halos, that doesn't mean that they are doing bad. It just means that Gears of War is doing very well. "The Halos were 1 and 2 on X-box live for months in a row" is a true statement. I never said WHEN they were 1 and 2 for months. Just the fact that they were, and still are, so high on the list almost guarantees it'll sell more than 1.33 million.
I'm 100% sure it's going to sell more than THIS!!! The halos have been 1 and 2 on X-box live for months in a row. This is guarenteed to do extremely well.
M3mnoch, m3mnoch, my hard rocking Joystiq (and I assume M:TG) amigo.
Whilst I'm sure Bungie aren't going to allow any old game out the door (and are having significant input) I'm fairly sure Ensemble Studios are going to stick to their BFME controls for the most part, having already released 2 successful RTS' on consoles.
With that said BFME II sold 192k copies on 360, with 10M 360's out by the time this is completed and tagged with the 'Halo' name I'm sure this is going to surpass that.
I just don't think it's going to radically redefine the console strategy game :s
keep in mind, also, that fps on consoles was terrible before halo. also, make sure you're taking into account that bungie has been working on the controls for about a year now.
tighten. refine. tighten.
halo wars is going to do to the rts what halo did to the fps.
I am have my concerns about the controls for a real time strategy type game on a console. Most of the things I tie to the genre as far as controls, like selecting units and such I tend to think of in terms of mouse and keyboard controls. I think they game has to prove that it can overcome that hurdle before I will grant it such a high level of success. Though I agree that the halo name alone will sell some copies, but not 733k in the face of bad reviews.
I just know this is going to do very well! I guarantee it's going to sell more than just 733k. Why? 1. Almost everyone hates the flood, and this is purely just Human covenant battle. 2. Halo and Halo 2 have been huge on X-box live for a long time, and will continue to be for a long time. Because of all the Multiplayer possibilities for this game, many people will have to buy it. 3. It has the name Halo on it. 4. The makers have a lot of experience with making other games like this. I'd imagine it selling at least 1 million, probably more.
@ Deltaneutral, LoTR Battle of Middle Earth II was pretty good on Xbox 360. GS gave it an 8.3. Halo Wars is by the guys who did Age of Empires so they have some pretty good experience with RTS. C&C3 for Xbox 360 may be the better bet though because they already have experience with a good RTS on console.
