They are drawing from all of the 25 years of content developed from the game. Not many games out there have as rich a history as this one will, simply because it's already had such a long time to work on and develop a rich history for the game.
They are tailoring the content specifically for an MMO, this is not a cheap knockoff of WoW using a different setting.
The beta will probably last for the rest of the year.
They talk about many of the aspects of the game that make this game different from WoW, they have a list of improvements in just about every aspect of the game, this could very easily be WoW2, only in a different setting.
This stock is still undervalued by a great margin. There have already been over 250k signups for the Beta.
Potential buyers of this game are anyone who plays WoW, anyone who liked the tabletop game, and anyone who got tired of WoW because it didn't have enough "meat" to keep them interested.
Just based on the Beta Signups, the hype, and the gameplay information I've seen so far I'd say this game will sell between 2-3 million easy in its first year alone.
Recently, Managing Editor Jon Wood had the opportunity to sit down with Mark Davis (Deputy Content Director) and Steve Perkins (Director) to talk about Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. In this first part of a two-part interview, Wood talks to Davis and Perkins about the WAR IP, beta, innovations and more.
To be a member of the Raven Host is to commune with the essence of Tzeentch itself. Those who accept the gifts of The Changer of Ways are blessed with unimaginable power, and are forever changed.
Grumlok has summoned all the tribes of the Old World to join his great Waaagh!, but it is the Bloody Sun Boyz who will command the most respect and fear among their green kin.
The High King decreed the founding of a new regiment, which he called the Oathbearers. Such was the importance of their task, any Dwarf wishing to join the Oathbearers would be required to swear an oath to the High King himself.
This game's buzz is very strong among table-toppers. This is why a Warhammer MMO is such a huge deal. Not all video gamers are aware of the Warhammer realms, or the massive following it has.
There are literally millions of fans in this niche genre, that are foaming at the mouth waiting for a Warhammer title. This will definitely sell more than 1 million copies.
Just look at the beta sign-ups if you don't believe this will be the hottest MMO in years.
Looking at the two I would have to say WAR has far more potential than Conan.
Full character customization (no two characters will really look alike), in depth PVP system, Instances where you compete against a team from the other side, quests you pick up automatically if someone is working on a quest and you are nearby fullfilling the requirements (no more running back to the city or sharing, you both start cooperatively working on it together)
Of the two games WAR also seems to have the greater amount of Buzz going for it.
Also 200,000 signups for the beta is quite a lot for a game that is predicted to sell a little over 1 million copies, unless the game totally sucks I think this game could easily move between 2-3 million copies.
I agree. (EA) Mythic have the experience to bring the MMORPG together, the setting is extremely rich, yet pretty common ground (nothing too alien, that is), and it's suitably different from WOW. Even though Warcraft has stolen so much from Warhammer over the years it's not even funny :)
Then again, Conan might be a steep contender for this, as I believe they're attracting largely the same audience: people tired of disinterested in WOW.
I also believe that since development was once canned already, they've taken a hard look at whether it's feasible to find a foothold in the market or not.
I'm surprised to see this game valued so low, take a look at the content for this game and also consider that there were over 200k people who applied for the beta for this game alone.
This game will very easily meet 2.5 million in sales if its half as good as it looks.
The game offers customized characters beyond anything you see in WoW, enhanced PVP and PVE, and a number of features that will easily attract WoWers to the game and retain them over WoW.
After taking a trip out to see the gang at Mythic last year to see the progress on Warhammer Online, we've been anxious to return and see further updates on the game. Last week we finally got the chance to meet with the team at Mythic to get a fresh look at the game. This time around, the developers were happy to let us try out two entirely new factions, the Empire and Chaos, and get our hands dirty with the game's very first realm vs. realm action.
As with the dwarves and greenskins, the two new factions maintain the character they possess in the miniature and pen and paper games. The Empire have a sort of fatalistic resolve that sees them fighting fiercely in what they believe is ultimately a losing battle. Though they're living in the end of days and face imminent extinction, they continue to expand and fight back against the forces that are trying to corrupt and then crush their society.
