Yup, a title that most core gamers could care less about, and that sold 687,700 copies in May 2008, and is suffering from shortages will certainly reach the plateau of 17 million copies sold worldwide- A plateau previously reserved for:
*Mario 1 through 4 *The Sims *Every Doom ever made
Yessir, good luck reaching 17 million sold anytime soon.
Another publisher should create their own games for the peripherals they release, like the Wii Zapper or Wii Fit. Instead of a higher price and no game. Of course it would have to be publishers not companies that strictly deal in creating peripherals.
@mrahaju, You are on the right track, but it was never about the questionable success of third parties. It was about the possibility of Wii Fit missing out on some sales due to the balance board being available separately.
I see possibility, in 2009 or beyond, that once there is no more shortage of Wii Fit, Nintendo might start releasing stand alone Balance Board SKU, just like they did with Steering Wheel. So, third parties getting products that are more than $40 but cheaper than $90 is only going to enjoy short term success, IMO.
@mrahaju, Less than the whole package because that is the only way that gamers would be able to get the balance board for non-Wii Fit games at the current time.
Are you talking about cheaper than US$ 90 (Wii Fit + Balance Board), or cheaper than US$ 40 (assuming Balance Board only price is US$ 90 - US$ 50 for Wii Fit) ?
I doubt other company can make a cheaper (US$40 or less) balance board with quality as good as Nintendo's. Hori could be one of the possible candidate, but I was disappointed by other company's products on other area (PS2 controller, PS2 Memory Card, DS adapter & battery, GBA Link Cable), which is why our family always buy original accessories.
@mrahaju, The reason I posted this was not so much as in this particular case but in the fact that Nintendo is allowing peripheral manufacturers to create their own balance boards for the Wii. If another large peripheral manufacturer were to release a balance board that was cheaper than buying Wii Fit, then those gamers who want to play some of the upcoming games that will be utilizing the balance board could just purchase the cheaper third-party balance board instead of picking up Wii Fit.
@mrahaju, Seriously. Are they hoping to take advantage of the mass amount of people that want to play Shaun White Snowboarding, and wish they could pay extra for a board that doesn't come with Wii Fit?
More expensive than Wii Fit's MSRP prices ? Didn't include Wii Fit S/W ? Only add LCD and cleared foot area ? The way I look at this, this H/W are destined to fail.
