If you are a third party looking to sell software on the Wii, I think you have to consider the Wii attach rate without Wii Sports or or Wii Play as neither are traditional software sales in the truest sense and nothing they can compete with at any rate. They've a hard enough job competing with Nintendo first party let alone a free game bundled with the controllers (multiple extra Wii-motes being essential for most owners) and a game bundled with the hardware.
I also happen to think 4m is conservative, especially from the normally bullish Pachter.
OMG. The attach rate of the Wii is at the same ratio like the 360, If you count Play and Sports (what you should, since they are games). The low attach rate of the Wii is not existent ;)
Looks like Nintendo will beef up their attach rate with Wii Fit
i.e. most of the people who have just bought a Wii + Wii Sports will probably get this
My mum actually spoke to me about Wii Fit and the price she saw in a paper. Pretty sure it's the first time my mum has ever brought up the topic of console gaming! She's played and enjoyed Play and Sports on Wii and is now looking to Fit! The only game I had ever previously seen her play was Tetris on a game watch bought for me!

That was probably some 18 years ago judging by that E-bay post
Think this will be an awesome weapon in the Nintendo casual arsenal
According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, Nintendo has set aside a USD 40 million war chest for marketing ahead of the US launch of Wii Fit.
A record-breaking $40 million marketing budget can help Nintendo sell four million copies of Wii Fit in the US during 2008, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.
"Wii Fit will sell 3 million to 4 million in the US if they market aggressively," Pachter told the New York Post.
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is predicting the game - more of a virtual personal trainer than a traditional shoot 'em up or sports fantasy - could be one of the industry's biggest blockbusters of 2008.
I mostly avoid the Mii mini-games by now, having decided that the boxing and jogging aren't as effective as just doing the strength training exercises and the yoga.
I've been using Wii Fit for a little over a month now and thought you'd want to hear about my progress.
Since the board can determine quite accurately how well you are performing a set of standard exercises, the feedback that you get from the game is meaningful.
A month ago I ran around the block and felt terrible, but the other day I ran a mile and felt fine afterward. Wii Fit is a convenient and helpful way for me to get back in shape
im still really undecided about this game which is why i havent taken a position on it, on one hand with the right advertising campaigns it could really catch on and sell millions more wii's and millions of copies. on the other it could just be a moderate success and slowly get to around the 10million mark, although most would consider 10million at $90 each more than a moderate success. it depends on wether it is seen as a vital accessory for games other than the one it comes with and wether these are vital games to have for the wii as to wether people are willing to pay the money for and thus the rate of success.
