@BishopB, The original link is now down. To get the demo just go to www.spore.com and navigate to the free demo download. (It's localized to most languages, therefore no link to the download.)
Maxis's executive producer tells us about the newly released Spore Creature Creator, as well as what it's like working with Will Wright and bringing the title to fruition.
@Laoldar, I have seen some sellers of the title offering the full Creature Creator with the pre-order of the full game. The release of the Creature Creator is a definite way to help sales of the full game.
I agree, Maxis has managed to make the game accessible to people who havne't bothered with PC gaming in a while and have older machines. It will also run quite well on non-gaming laptops too.
Releasing the Creature Creator early is marketing genius. Even on a cynical site like Kotaku people are giddy over what they can do with even a gimped demo. I read that they might offer $5 off the full game if you purchase the Creator...and $5 isn't a bad deal for a couple months of play.
Of course, my creatures have so far turned out much like VGCats predicted...
@Laoldar, The Creature Creator is definitely very fun. I won't be purchasing it, but the demo is very fun - even with just a quarter of the options unlocked, there are infinite possibilities. I will instead be awaiting the release of the entire title. The buzz for the title seems to be picking up as people are experiencing a part of the title for the first time.
The one other thing about the Creature Creator that I would like to note is that it runs well even on low powered computers (I have tried it on a computer that only has a NVidia 7350 - a low end graphics solution). I see Spore on the PC being able to reach the majority of the PC audience - everything from those with low powered PCs to those with gaming PCs and those that are casual gamers to those that are hardcore gamers. The appeal of Spore looks to be to a large number of people.
This demo is isnanely fun, especially when you see that the vast majority of options are locked (until a person can buy the full version on Tuesday).
The Creature Creator will create amazing buzz for this game...I found it incredibly easy to use and each caracter has an impressive amount of personality to it. If EA can get people to try this demo, Spore iwll be huge.
The plan was to have a Spore Creature Creator Demo, containing about 25 percent of the full library of creature pieces parts, going out to the public around June 17...Well, a file purporting to be that demo is on Megaupload as we speak. Now, 191 MB is a huge file just to be bogus malware, but still, we assume no responsibility if this isn't what it says it is or turns out to be something worse. (It's real)
