I would agree, between January 2006 and January 2007 Nintendo DS sales grew 33.054% (from 160k to 239k) and I don't expect that growth to increase significantly. So a 40-50% growth would seem generous, 36DKP seems to be what it should be at max.
@kspraydad,nearly every portable has multiplayer (even mobile phones) so does my dell axim and most pocket pcs. In fact my x50v has higher resolution and plays quak III, multiplayer. the thing is you are not likely to find two people with the same multiplayer game, owning a pocket pc or the same mobile. Same with the PSP... it more rare. WIth DS you are especially at the gaming teenage ages.
Good personal observation. For clarification the OTHER handheld console in this generation can do the same thing! (If you are in Japan it is alot more common).
Warning this is acasual observation so please dont downbid :) I was coming back on the train to London a bit early (in time for school kids) and saw bunch after bunch of teenage boys with DS playing Mario Kart via Wifi . It immediately hit me: its these people that are the bedrock of DS. I never understood the draw of DS when my 3 year old dell axim x50v could do better graphics. I thought I would never buy a DS... but for the target market the DS is cheap enough AND social enough that makes it sell by the millions. Its the new aspect of social computing that is far more important to the market than higher specs. Even I, who have NEVER considered buying a DS wouldnt mind getting one just to play on the train ...
