Edge Online's commentary on this news also adds that the game "had sold 1 million units as of February this year worldwide" and that Crytek believe sales were hampered by widespread piracy.
The CEO and President of game developer Crytek, Cevat Yerli, said Crysis cost 15 million Euros (22 million USD) to develop during a panel about the future of graphics at the Games Convention Developers Conference in Leipzig, Germany. Yet despite the cost, Yerli maintained the game was profitable.
EA and Crytek have officially announced the development of Crysis Warhead, "a parallel story" to hardware-taxing tropical shooter, Crysis. Built by Crytek's Budapest studio atop an optimized version of the CryEngine 2 technology, Crysis Warhead sees players squeezing into the nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, affectionately dubbed "Psycho," and learning that "life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined."
It's being reported on several sites this morning that the sequel to Crysis could have been given a name. The trademark was filed in relation to "computer games software and electronic games" so something's defiantly [sic] on the boil in Germany.
thrs really no reason to be confused it was thr in the top 3 in almost all the pc charts and pc games do very well in europe....atleast those that r there in the charts.....take quake wars for example.....it sold just 25k copies in the us but it sold more than 200k worldwide....that almost 8 times the amount of sales in the us which is quite staggering...but thats the route pc gaming is going now....
many do not believe the story or think it may only represent shipped numbers worldwide. It would have probably been worth mentioning it in ea's press release.
