This certainly jumped up in value for a game getting only slightly better reviews than average. After reading on Penny Arcade about the lack of LAN play and the Kotaku coverage of having the multiplayer truncated to just the continent you are on, seems like this title was off to a rough start. Any reason why there is a sudden resurgence in this game or is it just optimism of the launch?
A report on Area Games, translated by Kotaku, says EA’s Army of Two has been refused classification by the German ratings body USK.
When contacted by Next-Gen EA confirmed that “Army of Two is currently unrated in Germany”. The publisher refused to be drawn on whether it plans to submit a toned down version of the title to the USK for classification, but added that it is “in discussions with the ratings body to review next steps for its release”.
While mercenaries are about as widespread of a gaming cliché as space marines are, we were really hoping that Army of Two from EA was going to be better than your average shooter. After all, it’s completely centered around two-player cooperative play, and early looks promised a game with good graphics and a subversive sense of humor—like a buddy action flick, full of one liners and big explosions.
"Army of Two has had quite an extensive pre-ordering campaign, even hosting a competition for would-be users to design a sniper rifle and submachine gun for the game. How important do you think it is to have a strong pre-order campaign for a game to be successful?
Matt Turner: It is always a great bonus to the overall sales of a game but in reality if your game is good it will do well regardless of the pre-order numbers
You have to understand the context with which the comment was said, by FPS, I did not mean 'first person shooter' but shooter games in general. Secondly, at the time this game was not receiving positive press and seemed like it would be a gimmicky game that relied too much on the co-op mode and the interaction there than actually being a solid shooter. Due to this and the fact that it had missed the holiday's, I came to the conclusion I made then. Now, over three months later, new information has come up that would cause me to revise my prediction.
As a skeptic going into this game, I have a rough view of what this game should be. With numerous delays plaguing this game for over a year, you can’t help but wonder how this title will turn out.
