I am just saying that High Voltage is in a similar situation to n-Space. They had original FPS game, had Nintendo as publisher but this did not result in major sales success. Neither company had a history of making AAA games too.
A friend showed me Geist, it has a lot of shooting. To me, that is an FPS :-), even if you do other actions in the game.
@lstormy10, Well, IF Nintendo is the publisher, and IF The Conduit have good sales, the anti-Nintendo will claim : Conduit is NOT third party game, because it is published by Nintendo while pro-Nintendo will claim : Even though Nintendo publish it, the game are NOT made by Nintendo, hence it is third party. This (third party vs. Not third party) is the uproar I meant (I forgot to mention the IF it has good sales in my previous post).
Personally, IF Nintendo are interested, the best scenario for High Voltage (IMO) is Nintendo became the publisher, or the other tier 1 publisher (like mentioned by Just_Ben)
@Mushashi, Is Geist really an FPS ? IIRC, it is only partial shooter. The main theme of the game is possessing enemy.
Taken from Gamespot Review : "It's a good thing there's more to Geist than first-person shooting. Fortunately, it's not long before you're transformed into a ghost, and the game gets considerably more interesting from there. Geist's single-player adventure is fairly short and should take you maybe 10 hours or fewer to complete, but it's got a good amount of variety. There's quite a bit of shooting, including more than a few battles against thick-skinned boss opponents. The nature of the action changes considerably depending on the host you possess and whatever weapon he or she happens to be carrying. You'll also get to possess everything from animals to conventional appliances while finding your way around Volks Corp. and uncovering the intentions of its eccentric leader."
Once I considered buying Geist, but when it came out, I don't have any spare money, so I didn't get it (I did get Chibi-Robo around the same time, probably several month before).
Nintendo published a exclusive FPS game from another developer on the NGC, Geist by n-Space. Recent Nintendo published original western games do not seem to be great sales successes. Maybe someone has reliable sales figures to disprove that?
I guess it will be part of the bet who is the publisher. Nintendo is one of the possible publishers on my list to. Nintendo wants core games (hell they even wanted a GTA) on the Wii. It will be a major difference if Nintendo/EA/Ubisoft/Activision publishes it, or they get a publisher from the 3rd "line". At least in sales it will be a big difference.
But I really don't think Nintendo is out of the Picture here. This game closes the whole the Wii has in its current lineup (A well done, fast, "good" graphic driven FPS) and Nintendo knows it. Nintendo tried hard to fill let fill that gap by third party. But if they don't want to, I think Nintendo can live with second party.
To be honest, if it is half as good as promised I want it, and I want it now!
@apujanata, Why would there be uproar in the gaming forums if Nintendo is the publisher?
I also agree that the FPS genre on Wii has great potential. Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 along with RE4 for Wii showed that the FPS genre can be done very well on Wii as well as showing that there is still ways the controls can be improved.
@lstormy10, Imagine : What will happen IF Nintendo is the publisher ? I'm sure there will be uproar in the gaming forums. (No, I don't have any insider knowledge about Nintendo and High Voltage, so this is not a leak, just pure speculation).
I wish that this game will have good multiplayer. i didn't play Goldeneye (didn't have N64), so if Conduit's multiplayer can be almost as good as Goldeneye, I will buy it.
I see lots of potential in Wii FPS, ever since I played RE4 for Wii, which is much better than RE4 GC (wii-mote is a significant improvement over analog stick for FPS/FPA).
@lstormy10, One selected quote from the interview:
"IGN: You still haven't announced a publisher. Have you gotten serious about aligning yourselves with one yet?
HVS chief creator officer, Eric Nofsinger: No, not until they give us what we want and tons of money. Oh, and a monkey. [Laughs]
We are taking it real slow. We aren't in any rush. This is something I probably could have been a bit more clear about before; we have our own funding to completion. We know we want a publisher, but we want it to be the right fit for the publisher, High Voltage, the game, and the fans that have so vocally supported us."
The monkey and [Laughs] is in reference to High Voltage's previous remarks about not wanting a publisher to come in and "monkey" things up.
"IGN: How would you say the game has progressed since we last wrote about it?
Eric: The single-player portion of the game is near the point of being just bug fixes and fine tuning. And polish, polish, polish. A lot of our team and development effort is moving to multiplayer now."
"Wii owners have rallied behind the Wii-exclusive first-person shooter, The Conduit, developed by High Voltage Software, since we first announced it. The game is still without a publisher, mostly because the software house is in no rush to find one. That being said, the company has created an E3 build which it will be showing behind closed doors next week. We chatted with HVS chief creator office, Eric Nofsinger, to find out what to expect from the rapidly developing FPS."
