I think Halo owners would be more inclined to grab GRAW/GRAW2, Gears, HL2 or CoD2/3/4 before a game like Bioshock. But we'll see :) Bioshock certainly did receive a great deal of positive press and the company made the right move to release it when they did, before the flood of fall releases.
I actually think Bioshock will get a little sales blip in its favour once the Halo 3 dust settles and the new 360 owners start scrabbling around for something else to play.
@feelmyring, I don't think this game trades off with Halo all that much. The two are very different games. Many people are getting Halo for the multiplayer, afterall, the single player can be finished in a day.
BioShock is only single player so you know your getting it for that story experience of the game. There can be long tail sales here just like a God of War game. Years from now when the game hits $20 and is rereleased, I think gamers who just get into the Xbox 360 will be thinking, "Hey I heard this game was great" and pick it up for the great single player experience. The fact that it is old doesn't factor in so much because there is no multiplayer.
So when are people going to begin shorting this game down to reasonable levels? We've still got the game valued at 3.3 million copies, when it sold 500k in its first month, and is only projected to sell 800k through two months. I can't imagine this having any kind of real legs, now that Halo 3 is out and the FPS dorks are obsessed with that. I think a much more reasonable level for this to be trading at is 225-250 DKP.
@Just_Ben, Haha, thanks. I was really just curious and figured I did something wrong with doing the double post or just posting something from VGCharts in general. Thanks everyone for the welcome.
Hi, jdknight25 I was one that bid the news down, because it wasn't really news (worthy). Well it already said why. Don't take it so hard, i made a mistake with a . today, so i lost 100 dkp, well shit happens :) And a lovely welcome from me :)
Thanks for taking the time to write that. I knew the difference already, and made a noob mistake by posting it as news. I was basically just putting it here as quick reference for anyone that didn't feel like jumping sites when they were curious about the #s. I would never hope, want or expect anyone to take VGCharts as The Word. That is why I just posted a quick link and didn't provide anymore than a quick summary, because I was never going to analyze speculative #s and all the analysis I have on take two would probably be old here.
@jdknight25, Sometimes VGC is all we have, though. So, like I said, they can be used as trending evidence, not exact evidence.
They're also (apparently, I've never seen any numbers on this) wildly inaccurate on thinly traded games (games that sell below 20,000ish copies). I'm not sure how people know this, but it's something else to take under advisement.
VGC numbers have a place on this exchange, without a doubt. But to use their numbers as anything else than indicators is perilous.
Looks like we were both writing at the same time. I didn't really know about the forums or anything, and quite frankly, I'm just too worn out and bored from what goes on in game forums in general that I can't be bothered by visiting the forums here. Thanks for the tips and the welcome. I'm still learning the ropes, I just figured with all the other news that can be found on any game site i.e. demo release, street date, going gold, etc...It has been noted, though. I didn't intend to double post, so sorry everyone for that. I e-mailed support a couple hours ago about deleting one of the posts.
NPD and VGC both gather about 60% of the total sales for the industry, but it's a different 60%. So if you're using VGC as a PRECISE method to price what you think things should be worth on the exchange, you're going to be wrong a lot. You'll be right a lot, but I doubt it'll even out for you in the end. The basic point is this: VGC is good for analyzing trends, but not for predicting what NPD numbers will be.
