Konami confirms release date of June 12

Joystiq.com - February 29, 2008

Submitted by vGInfidel (150) at 4:52PM PST on February 28, 2008

Although announced yesterday at the Destination PlayStation event, Sony America was quick to distance itself from the June 12 release date, saying instead "late Q2 2008." Konami has now confirmed via press release that Metal Gear Solid 4 is indeed coming out June 12, 2008. Konami also reaffirmed the pre-order bonus: reserve your copy of MGS4 starting April 2008 and get Metal Gear Saga 2.0, a DVD to catch you up to speed on the series, as well as a beta code for Metal Gear Online.

Kojima Productions refutes claims that playable demo is on the way next month. The recent rumours of a possible playable Metal Gear Solid 4 demo had got the pulses of PS3 gamers racing, but it seems now that disappointment is on the way with the news that no demo is planned. In a recent webcast on Hideo Kojima’s Konami blog, Kojima Productions’ Ryan Payton said quite starkly of the rumour: “That’s not the case.”

Kotaku - June 17, 2008

Submitted by TheTimeRanger (1007) at 3:58AM PST on June 17, 2008

From Kotaku: [...] Seems that during its first four days on release in Japan, the game has sold 476,334 copies spread across the various editions, including those bundled with hardware. And speaking of hardware, looks like the game's also given the PS3 a big (if temporary) sales boost, driving sales of the console to 77,208 for the week (the PS3 can normally be relied to move anywhere from 10-12,000 a week in Japan).
