Wii Fit sells out at Play.com within a day

gamesindustry - April 7, 2008

Submitted by Mushashi (5) at 2:45AM PST on April 7, 2008

Play.com has sold out of its entire allocation of Wii Fit in just one day, ahead of the games official release on April 25 in the UK. Pre-order demand has "overwhelmed" the online retailer, following success in Japan that saw the game sell one million copies in just over a month on sale. "Wii Fit is going to be huge – let’s hope that we can keep up with demand. We are expecting more stock before launch," he added.

Square Enix keen on Wii Fit Controller

Kotaku - July 17, 2007

Wii Fit's Balance Board is an interesting thing. Very flexible. Yeah, for Nintendo it'll work for a fitness game, but the possibilities go waaay beyond that. EA would tell us you could skate. Or ski. Or even surf. Extremely. Square Enix? You'll never guess what they'd use it for. Never ever in a million billion years.

Amazon already sold out of Wii Fit

Kotaku - May 5, 2008

Online shoppers seem to have fed frenziedly on Wii Fit at Amazon.com, up for pre-order as of April 15, with the retailer already claiming its allocation of the Nintendo fitness title is already at capacity. The site says it is "actively seeking more of this product from suppliers" and we suspect that the impression that one will be able to get their hands on the game/non-game day one—as we foolishly suspected would be possible with the Wii itself—is looking less and less likely.

Walmart.com pushing exercising program ahead of May 19 launch... This weekend, the Walmart.com homepage will be dominated by the Wii Fit — a physical exercise program that uses a pressure-sensing board as a controller — including a link to order the product now, ahead of its May 19 U.S. launch. Through May 11, shoppers who "pre-order" the $89.74 game, or pay in advance to guarantee delivery when the game launches, will also get a $10 online gift card to use for a future order at Walmart.com.

To us, it was a no-brainer: Namco Bandai's Family Ski and Nintendo's Wii Fit Balance Board were always supposed to be together. We're no skiing experts, but the sport seems to involve its fair share of leaning, making the game and Nintendo's wobbly slab the perfect match.

Wii Fit shortage is a "missed opportunity" warns...

GamesIndustry - June 2, 2008

Submitted by welshbloke (60) at 1:47AM PST on June 2, 2008

Billy Pidgeon, analyst for research firm IDC, has warned Nintendo that its success with the Wii console could backfire if it doesn't work on managing consumer expectation. Shortages of the fitness-based title Wii Fit have been widely reported, but are being felt most keenly in the US, and Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that Nintendo is shipping four times as many units to Europe to maximise on the profits yielded by the strong Euro.

Wii Fit sells out in the UK

GamesIndustry - April 16, 2008

Five of the top UK retailers have halted further pre-orders for Wii Fit. Play.com, Amazon, Game, Shopto and Zavvi are all displaying messages on their websites informing users of the situation. Stock supply for Wii Fit looks unlikely to be able to meet demand if online pre-order pages are anything to go by
