Over the weekend, Wii Fit went on sale in Japan. Most stores were selling one-Wii Fit-per-person, and it did brisk business with long lines. (With the current health craze in Japan, we imagine that it will continue to do well.) This shouldn't come as a surprise as Nintendo's been advertising Wii Fit pretty hard in primetime here. A GoNintendo reader by the name of Maxemillian_X recently snapped a picture of an upcoming release list from an Amsterdam-based gaming retailer which reveals two interesting pieces of Wii news. The first (and somewhat more reasonable) item is a supposed July 10 release date for the Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus bundle, as well as the standalone MotionPlus peripheral.

Shigeru Miyamoto illustrates the Wii Fit system, a new interactive physical fitness device from Nintendo. In the Time 100 online poll conducted this spring, Mr. Miyamoto was voted the most influential person in the world. last week Nintendo released its new Wii Fit system in North America. Though there were no hard sales figures available as of Tuesday, there were reports of stores across the country selling out of Wii Fit.

According to a Famitsu report, Wii Fit has sold a staggering three million units in Japan. Wii Fit has been sold countless copies worldwide and we’re sure this milestone will be the first of many for Nintendo’s digital weight watcher.

As the creator of classic franchises like Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong, Miyamoto's involvement with Wii Fit is significant. Much has been made of the fact that the game evolved from his personal interest in fitness, just as Pikmin grew out of his love for gardening, but he admits that his high-profile role in the game's creation was borne somewhat of necessity.

I've been using Wii Fit for a little over a month now and thought you'd want to hear about my progress. Since the board can determine quite accurately how well you are performing a set of standard exercises, the feedback that you get from the game is meaningful. A month ago I ran around the block and felt terrible, but the other day I ran a mile and felt fine afterward. Wii Fit is a convenient and helpful way for me to get back in shape

Kotaku just confirmed with the NPD Group that Wii Fit's lifetime sales has topped Halo 3's. As of the end of February Wii Fit has sold 6 million copies in the U.S. while Xbox 360 goliath has moved 5.9 million copies in its life time.
