"I think we have to face the facts - the value of consoles is such that no-one is going to make a PC-exclusive game in the future. Why would they? Why would they ignore consoles?" said Nvidia's VP of content business development, Roy Taylor.

I am talking new games. Everything from Sins of a Solar Empire to Spore to Age of Conan can be played on a sub-$1000 PC (the cheapest price range of PCs). In my own case, I play PC games on a rig that is over 3 years old. The only modification I have made is adding in a new $100 graphics card (hardly the cost of a console of this generation) and I can play everything from CoD4 and Team Fortress 2 to Sins of a Solar Empire and Age of Empires III at at least medium settings.
PC gaming has not fallen into the shadow of console gaming. PC gaming creates the paths that console gaming ends up taking (for the most part) - user generated content, online play, and more.
Piracy is being dealt with increasingly on the PC via services such as Steam, interesting takes on piracy such as those of Stardock (only allowing player to get the frequent updates for Sins of a Solar Empire by registering first), and the fact that more games are becoming online in some fashion where server-side checking can be done. The PC games industry is dealing with piracy in effective more than they have ever before and having more success now than they have had ever before.
