I do have a deep knowledge of our tax system in this country. Just because you have been working as a teen, does not mean that every other teen in this country is also working. Also, I never said that returns are not the normal thing when people get their taxes done at this time of the year - I only said that there people who end up owing money (not everyone gets a return). Also, many teens do not end up being able to get a job until after they are 16 years of age (child labor laws that make employers be hesistant in hiring younger teens). Also, I never said teens do not file taxes. Also, a large majority of teens working are not working anywhere as much as adults are and therefore, their return usually ends up being much smaller (coupled with the fact that their income is usually smaller also). You also did not address the issue that just returns are spread over more than just the month of February (which you are saying should have higher PS3 sales because of tax returns).
I do not see any reason why the sales of any game console will be significantly affected or affected at all due to tax returns.
Are you new to the country? More and more teens are working. And like you said, teens are the ones buying PS3s. And Teens DO file taxes. And if they are claimed as dependents, they will get all their paid taxes back. I have been working since I was 14 (now 23) and have received a refund every year.
And like I was saying, I have spoken to many people who claim to be buying a PS3 with their return.
And again, is this your first time in this country turning tax season? Many people actually expect returns every year. Some people use it for their houses, cars, or for bills. But every year in February you will see TV spots from car dealers, furniture stores, and check cashing places saying they will cash your return their. H&R block advertises instant returns. Now, if returns werent the norm, why would companies spend money on advertising it?
So, again. I expect Sony's sales to be as high, if not higher then the SE is already predicting.
@justcrim, I do not see how you can say that tax returns will help the sales of the PS3. I believe that tax returns will have neglible affects on the sales of all videogame consoles. First off, there are many people who end up owing taxes instead of getting money back. Secondly, many people who are purchasing PS3s are in their teens and many teens do not have to file tax returns. Also, those gettting money back from tax returns probably have other more important bills to pay off first. Lastly, the number of people getting money back will spread over a few months - not just February.
The reason PS3 is going to sell so well in February is because of 2 reasons. Tax return and Blu ray winning the format war.
I dont claim that the Best Buy store I work at is a national reference point, but once the Warner Brothers news came out, our PS3 didnt slow down one bit from the holidays. Our store hasnt had any Wiis since the first week of January and just now receiving small shipments of Xbox 360s. So, another reason could be that it is the only system we have in stock. We sold out of all our 80 GB PS3 and are getting low on the 40 GB model.
I know a lot of people are claiming they are buying a PS3 this year with their taxes because games that are coming out this year.
@Joe80, Yes, that data is true, AFAIK. Don't forget that one of the reason is because it is holiday season (Dec 07), and because of recent price cut (not sure whether PS3 has price cut in Australia or not, but I assumed it has one, just like every other country in the world).
Note that it is on the verge, means it is not yet done. It can do that IF PS3 manage to maintain a good weekly rate in Jan 08.
Today, in the comments section of one of her posts, a questioner asks how Square Enix will remake their games, and what games. Surfer Girl responded "Primarily graphical touches. I hear FF7 (again, not in that rumored all-out remake fashion that has been mention).""
We all know a major 3rd party publisher in Japan is remaking games for PSN. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was SquareEnix, and I wouldn't be surprised if it included FF7.
PS3's February future has already gone down quite a bit today, but at 27 DKP I still think it's too high. Xbox never got as high as 220K in a February. GameCube never even hit 170K in a February. Since when is PS3 outdoing those guys so much?
I'm quite surprised to see february npd already having similar numbers on ps3/360. While everybody sees 2008 as the coming back of ps3... this is earlier than I expected everybody will see it. Should this go this way however, and considerign that this is NPD not Eu/Japan data we're talkng about: wooow at ps3 in 2008!
How is it that <a href="http://joshuajamesslone.name/gamecharting/shipmentcompare.php?daydatemode=0&daybegin=0&dayend=1000&title=Worldwide+shipments&systemregion%5B0%5D=PSP_WWold&systemregion%5B1%5D=PS3_WW">PS3 has started off so much slower than PSP</a>, yet we have it currently projected to sell 8 million more units worldwide?

I will ignore your insults.
