"Suda 51: 'I'm really willing to make a sequel version--and right now I'm asking if it can be made...I think No More Heroes is a great game, there's no other action game like it for the Wii. If it was a band, it would be really energetic, like the Arctic Monkeys.' "
Just thought people would like to know that it appears as though Ubisoft is putting some advertising and marketing support behind No More Heroes. I have seen a number of advertisements for the title on sites directly aimed towards gamers (e.g. GameTrailers.com).
Also, Ubisoft has finally launched an official U.S. site that does not quite contain as much as the original Japanese site (though the U.S. site does add a forum to the mix).
Finally, the box art that I submitted from Amazon.com is the box art that Ubisoft is using on their advertisements and official site - this would mean that that box art is the final version (maybe the listing of the stock could be updated soon with this box art).
I know that I submitted an article before this one that detailed that retailers had moved up the ship date for No More Heroes, but this article highlights that Ubisoft has confirmed the move up in release (a nice positive for initial sales through not competing with Super Smash Bros. Brawl like it would have if it was released on its original release date).
"Ubisoft confirmed to IGN Wii this afternoon that No More Heroes has officially been moved up for a January 22 release date -- less than three weeks from now, if you're counting."
If it ends up being true that the release date of No More Heroes has been switched to January instead of February, then I would expect higher initial sales than if the title was released in February against Super Smash Bros Brawl. At least now No More Heroes will not be totally overshadowed by a large title like Super Smash Bros Brawl.
"Potential happy news from retailers: according to Amazon, GameCrazy, and Gamefly, the release date of No More Heroes has been moved ahead, from early February to late January. Amazon and GameCrazy list the game as releasing on January 22nd, while Gamefly places the game's release on the 24th. From a sales perspective, any move to prevent No More Heroes' burial by Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a good move..."
@ixaarii, I think it will do better in the US, It seems like it would appeal to the GTA crowd.(ya San Andreas did well in Japan but not nearly as well as it did in the US)
"Two interesting items related to localized versions of No More Heroes have popped up, and we decided to combine them despite the fact that they don't necessarily relate to one another."
@Just_Ben, outch! I was wondering what kind of audience a game marketing on so much strange would have. Maybe more success in US as EU i understand gets censored-ish version.
Japanese Wii owners buy Wii Sports, Wii Fit and maybe Super Mario Galaxy. That's about it, really! So, when a third party company releases something that, well, isn't any of those three, what happens? Not much. That's No More Heroes executive producer and Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada and No More Heroes and Killer 7 creator Goichi Suda hoping to sign copies of NMH. Thing is, after twenty minutes of Suda and Wada standing in front of Akihabara's Sofmap, nobody bought the game.
