This games stock price has been dormant for months, but expect that to change soon. Spore creator Will Wright has stated that Spore will "definitely come out" in the second half of 2007, most likely the Fall.
jsmrekar, I think the lack of activity following the IPO is because there hasn't been a whole lot of new information about this game (at least info that has got me excited) since the IPO. All the submitted news about the game is rather old.
The other reason is that all the available capital on the simExchange appears to be busy chasing the sure money stocks -- games where we already have the sales data and the stock is clearly mispriced (Madden, FFXII, Kirby, GTA:VC Stories, etc.). This will be the case until more "smart" traders come in and bid the stock prices to more accurate levels.
@emc, heh that's more realistic. Right now many of the stocks just keep going up or down which is not quite realistic. The trading is lagging the sales data as opposed to forecasting the data for many stocks. This will also change with more "smart" traders participating.
Spore will probably do well, like the 5 million mark well, over its lifetime. I think that many of the current thoughts that it won't penetrate the casual market are falsely argued.
Before the Sims came out, many people wondered why would anyone want to play a game were you play out regular life, lo and behold a lot of people did.
Spore might be the Sims equal because not only is it accessible but it play on a topic than many find interesting, who doesn't want to play out their own version of evolution.
In the end this stock seems pretty accurate, though if we are talking about over the lifetime of the product, this stock-for Spore-may seem a bit undervalued.
This game will rock the world. First the hardcore gamers will get their hands on it. Then it will slowly penetrate into the casual gaming market before making a major impact on all of society as we know it. "One great game can change the world"
I'm definitely picking this one up. Also I don't know if it's coming out for consoles or not but if it hits the Wii which I wouldn't be surprised if it did this game will definitely sell the console to the casual and new gamers.
The Robin Williams video is pretty cool--it looks like you can really do just about anything in designing your species. It's not just selecting a few things on a menu, you actually get to "draw" it.
Hexedian, I must agree that the Sims was more accessible than Spore will probably be. However, looking at Wright's track record, I think it's going to be his goal to make this game fairly accessible to the casual gamer, although probably not to the extent of the Sims. Like I said, even if Spore is not as successful as the Sims (which, I forgot to add, it probably will not be), if it is in the least bit successful by Wright's standards, this is definitely going to be already very successful.
The Sims did well because it was accessible to all. As much of a fan of Spore as I am (and I've been waiting for it anxiously since the E3 of 2005), I don't think it'll do that well with the casual gamer market. That being said, I'd be disapointed if it didn't hit the current 3 million sales.
If you've seen any of the videos, you know that this game is something different and very innovative. Everyone I know who's seen them has been very impressed and excited about the future release of this game.
Will Wright's The Sims sold 16 million copies (that's equivalent to a game having the value of 1600 DKP per stock here), according to VGCharts (see http://www.vgcharts.org/worldtotals.php?name=the+sims ). Even if Spore will prove less successful than The Sims, if it even makes a trace of its success (which it probably will), it will still sell extremely well.
