You can't really compare it to LBP. From early reports it doesn't look like it's going to be a massive software mover. As for the other question because people may not actually be online.
To put this number in to somewhat of a context outside the 360 scale, LittleBigPlanet's sales in the US as reported by VGChartz (same source) so far which includes leaked copies and the first week since launch i believe, has figures of 350k. That is a HUGE difference between 350k and estimated 2000k first week sales. I know there is an infinite amount of variables such as legs, hype etc. but i still think this difference is too large, either VGC data is wrong (quite possible) or we need to re-evaluate our GLS of these two stocks (also quite possible). Should GoW2 go up? LBP down?
Why then do the leaderboards suggest that well under a million people have played games online. I mean the highest number of entries into any of the leaderboards is about 300,000; if sales are as they say (2.1million), i would expect FAR higher numbers of people on the leaderboards.
According to early retailer reports, and user polls, Gears of War 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Xbox 360 titles to date.Using the aforementioned data, Gears of War 2 looks to have debuted to midnight and Friday sales of 1,400,000 units in North America, and 700,000 units in 'Others' territories. This would be roughly 20% lower, by comparison, to Halo 3's massive debut, which wound up with 3.8 million units sold it's first week on the market.
Gears' gameplay isn't mindless warfare -- it's intensely focused, visceral fun. Likewise, hunkering down in the game's Roadie Run -- during which the camera pulls down close to your character as he ducks and runs -- again feels limited, as it's not conducive to either keeping an eye (and the camera) ahead of you or making tight turns. For such a stunning game, these held-over missteps seem odd, but they have little impact on Gears 2's impressive level of polish across the board.
"If you haven't figured it out by now, Gears of War 2 is what's going to sell Xbox 360s this holiday season. It has non-stop action, fresh gameplay, varied environments, an engrossing storyline, multiplayer that will have people busy for years to come, and some of the nastiest and coolest kills I've seen in a videogame."
To celebrate the arrival of Gears of War 2, more than 20,000 retailers worldwide will open their doors at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 7 to massive lines of eager fans.
In London, Los Angeles and New York, Microsoft and retail partners will host launch events featuring contests, special guest appearances and prizes, including Limited Edition Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 consoles, Special Edition Gears of War 2 Zune devices, DC Comics/WildStorm Productions' comic books, art books, posters and more.
The world's second review of Gears of War 2 has hit shops in the latest issue of Xbox World, which slaps a gleaming 91 score on it.OXM Reviewer "OXM Monobrow", otherwise known a Ben Talbot, was "blown away by it", according to the official mag, which says "it's the biggest blockbuster you'll see this year."
We had a chance to play through the first act of the final version of Gears of War 2 recently, jump in to find out if the beginning of the anticipated shooter starts off strong or leaves us wishing for more.
"The new issue of OXM is on-sale today containing the world's first review of Gears of War 2. And, well, it's easily as good as we were expecting so it's nabbed a prime 9/10 score. We reckon it's the biggest blockbuster you'll see this year.
We've also spent a lot of our own time on the multiplayer in lunchtimes and evenings and that's awesome too. It's going to go straight to the top of the most-played games on Xbox Live, no question.
