This game is not going to sell based on reviews. Look at Carnival Games for the Wii, it had a metacritic score of 56% from 27 reviews and has sold around 1.2 million copies so far. This game looks to be better and have the 'Rock Band' + 'Guitar Hero' effect to help it out. As deftangel said, "the amount of Wii's out there can take this a long way". 100DKP does not seem out of sight.
"As a casual rhythm game, Battle of the Bands gets big points for charm and humor, and the intended audience is sure to appreciate the ability to actually play this without too much difficulty. Guitar heroes looking for their next challenging digital wankery, however, are advised to move along. This one's just for laughs."
I got into this stock early so my position is pretty healthy right now. I think 65DKP is a fair value but by no means the height of ambitions here. The Wii's install base is such that it can sustain such releases. It's suited to the party game demographic and plays on the rhythm game mechanics popularised by Guitar Hero and Rock Band. THQ do not publish any other "music games" so will focus some marketing on this to the right areas, i.e. NOT hardcore gamers.
It won't do spectacular numbers but it's one of those can stick in the charts middling for a couple of months and pick up 100k here, 100k there. 100DKP would be too much but if it reviews well and is marketed correctly, the amount of Wii's out there can take this a long way IMO.
True. But it's the publisher that's going to be funding the marketing, not the developer.
THQ aren't averse to promoting it's titles. That said, I've not seen anything about this game either, so perhaps you're right. And reviews are leaning towards it being 'odd', rather than 'good'. It's a tough one to call.
That's very true, add the price to the fact that party/mini-games do very well on the Wii and this could do very well. A glance at Planet Moon's website shows them to be a developer that develops grade A titles... or at least B+ titles (MDK, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Armed and Dangerous).
However, unless marketing does something drastic in the next week or so I don't think anybody will even hear of this game, let alone consider buying it. The developer has a bit of a track record of creating "cult classics" that are critical successes but retail failures.
Anyways, you all know my views by now. I'll stop spamming the discussion board :)
So, I'm going on nothing more than gut feelings either, but the key differentiater for this game is going to be price. You're not shelling out for peripherals, so it's the budget priced rhythm game. Rock Band is a huge investment (especially with no DLC on Wii), GH is also significantly more than a bare-bones $50 game, but this offers similar seeming gameplay using no additional hardware.
GH and Rock Band really have a cultural zeitgeist going for them, with appearances in non-gaming media. If this can tap into that, I think it can do very well indeed, especially given the nature of the Wii's install base. It's that typical Wii owner who doesn't want to spend huge sums of money on bulky peripherals, but might well plump up the cash for what they perceive as a similar experience at a lower price point.
@Thumper, Well, if you don't have any # based analysis / prediction, and only base your prediction on gut feeling, you will not be able to convince other people or made them change their mind.
Personally, I am not into rhythm games, but I do know that some of them are doing OK (games like Elite Beat Agents are doing very well in Japan, just average in US, and no idea how they do in UK, but most probably not doing well, since it didn't show up in UK ELSPA Silver award list).
Since I didn't follow music / rhythm games, I do not invest in this kind of stock. I was hoping that you or anyone else have done anaylsis on this game.
Er... I'll let somebody else do the fancy number crunching because I really just don't know how to do it. I tend to make wild (and usually erroneous) guesses while building my profile. Probably why I'm ranked where I am after a couple months here. :D
My reasons are pretty much what I said in my last post, I just don't see why you'd purchase this over Rock Band or GH unless you really liked rhythm games. I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who will, but are there 600,000+ of them? Now maybe if people knew what this game was actually about but, as the articles on this page show, there's very little information out there about it. THQ probably could've given Planet Moon a bit of a leg up if they actually threw some marketing behind it. As I said, it looks like a really fun party game, but it took a bit of digging to find that out. Being up against a heavyweight like GH, it's not getting anywhere CLOSE to the publicity it needs to be a contender.

What was the reason ? Was there new # released today ?
If there was no new #, this is a good opportunity to get profit, since the decrease is 50% in a day.
