Rumor: Factor 5 Developing New Kid Icarus Game for Wii

Kombo - January 20, 2008

Submitted by apujanata (14935) at 3:10AM PST on January 20, 2008

Kombo has learned from a credible source that Factor 5's Kid Icarus title is being developed ground-up for Wii. It will not use one of the developer's previous GameCube graphics engines. It has been over 20 years since Kid Icarus, released in 1986 for NES. The 2D sidescroller is uniquely its own, but its design enjoys recognizable influences from three of Nintendo's biggest franchises: Mario, Metroid and Zelda.

Wii could outsell PS2, says Iwata

Games Industry - July 16, 2007

Submitted by Making_Waves (706) at 10:59AM PST on July 16, 2007

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said he believes the Wii could outsell PlayStation 2 over the course of its lifetime to become the most popular console ever. Sony's PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved, Iwata told Reuters. But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that. More than 120 million PS2 units have been shipped since the console launched in 2000. Nintendo sold 5.8 million Wii consoles between December 2006 and March 2007, and is predicting that a further 14 million will be sold by March next year.

EEDAR: Estimates Wii sold 3.2m in December

GamesIndustry - January 12, 2009

Nintendo hardware and software saved the US games market during December, with software for the systems accounting for over 50pc of all games sold during the month. That's according to Jesse Divnich of EEDAR, as the company estimates the Wii sold over 3.2m units during the month – the highest on record for any single console platform. "Without these sales, the industry would have likely felt the full wrath of the recession - much like other industries closely linked to gaming

Wii outsells Aussie rivals combined in July

Aussie-Nintendo - August 14, 2007

Submitted by rikitikitik (288) at 5:57AM PST on August 15, 2007

Updated lifetime sales figures of the Wii, XBOX360 and the PS3 up to July 2007 have been reported. Analysis of these numbers with previous figures have shown that for the month of July, Wii, with 31,654 units sold, managed to outsell both the 360 and the PS3 combined, with 13,495 and 11,775 units sold respectively. Although the 360 lifetime figures are still in the lead with 195k units sold, the Wii, 138k units is closing in fast. If current numbers hold, we should expect the Wii to surpass the 360 in 3 months. The recent 360 price cut may keep the status quo longer, however.
