Only two months since the release of the DS incarnation of the Pokemon series in NA, over 10 million Pokemon have been exchanged via the games' online trading system GTS as reported in this article, citing Famitsu. A significant percentage of these trades were attributed to the Japanese' preference for English-named Pokemon. As the article humorly states, one can only imagine the aftermath of the games' release in Europe and Australia.
My point was that one shouldn't estimate sales just by randomly guessing. The games didn't sell 25 million each and that still stands.
And I didn't "conveniently" leave any out. The oens I posted were the three main generations. The others are the special editions (Yellow, Crystal, Emerald) of each generation that are released much later and the special edition of Diamond/Pearl's generation won't be counted in its sales. Fire/Leaf is not a brand new game, but a remake of the first.
So, again, he was not right to say that each sold 25 million. Nor have half of the 150 million been from handheld RPGs (120 million are). To claim that each generation sold 25 million makes this stock seem underpriced, but it ignores that the number of sales is skewed by the early generations and that the numbers old has been steadily dropping.
You should look a bit further than just using a calculator and claiming I contradicted myself.
If you go to the bottom of the page in this link: http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=pokemon&console=&publisher=&sort=Total that you posted, you'll see that the total for the pokemon franchise is over 150 million games, sold. Also, if you add up all the handheld RPG games (including the ones you conveniently left out) they come out to more than 75 million, which is half of 150 million.
Your link completely contradicts your message, and M-Man1 is correct in his facts, though not necessarily in his assumption.
The sales between the 3 generations varies by quite a bit (31 million, 23 million and 15 million respectively, not counting the special edition each time).
While I'm not exactly zukaus, I will try to reason this through. The Pokemon franchise has sold over 150 million games worldwide. Let's say about 1/2 of these games are handheld RPGs (though it is probably more). If you divide this amount equally among the previous three generations, that means at least 25 millions copies were sold each generation, even with a little leeway. So I think that these games will sell at least 20 million combined.
Nintendo of Europe has announced that Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are heading over to Blighty on July 27, having already conquering Japan and America.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were released in America earlier this month and sold a staggering 1.75 million copies in just 14 days, according to independent sales data gathered by the NPD Group. Meanwhile in Japan, five million copies have been sold since the games launched in September 2006. Will Europe be next to bow down to Pikachu's power?
While non-PC software sales were flat, and console game sales fell by 20 per cent, strong sales of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl lead to a 60 per cent increase in handheld game sales.
