"Following on from various reports from around the internets that stores are sold out and Amazon and eBay are seeing sizeable price inflations (£79.99 [$120]?!), we've just had word from Nintendo UK that Professor Layton and the Curious Village, Level 5's wonderfully charming puzzler adventure, has been the "most successful DS launch EVER""
UK seems receptive to this game, since it is #3 (below Gears of War 2 and LittleBigPlanet) in its release week.
Now it all depend on its leg. If the leg is good, then the current price MIGHT be slightly underpriced. If the leg is bad, then the current price is right.
Looks like this may peak in NA at the higher end of my prior prediction at 275k, has only reached 230k and I haven't seen it on retail store shelves, and it was clearanced off at at least 1 retail store.
VGC has been accurate on this game's sales in comparison to NPD (see prev discussion). They have it at 1.16 million & 230k in NA.
Even if it reached sales of 380k in NA (by adding 150k which is extremely generous), that would put it at 1.31 million. Add 300k for Europe (though nowhere have I seen an actual release date for EU), and we arrive at 1.61 million. If we are extremely generous and give EU 380k it tops out at 1.69 million.
@Just_Ben, COD4 X360 GLS is only 698.22. COD4 PS3 GLS is 262.44. Total : 960.66 (only 6% higher than Gear of War 2 current GLS).
Current Gear of War GLS is only 526.83. Is it really reasonable to expect GoW 2 to have almost twice of GoW GLS, especially when the competition is much tougher (compared to the time when GoW is released on Nov 2006) ?
GoW2 is not correcting much to more realistic price level yet. I also hold a negative position on it (quite large), but I think it may have GTA effect for a long time so profit will take long time to come. As for Layton, until we have European performance data, I would be negative on this, but with high ranked members positive on this, it is not worth fighting this to lower levels. ;-)
