@zeromous, I think Laoldar has answered your question regarding SSBB vs. N64 one (forget the name, since I didn't have N64, only PS1).
About SSBB vs. SSBM, it is true that NOW SSBB's 4.85 shipment (+ whatever amount it sold in US + Japan in April 1 - April 24 period) are still lower than SSBM's 7 million (I rounded it up to 7 million, just to inflate the figure).
However, as Laoldar said, there are still Europe figure, which was not counted into SSBB current figure. Using linear regresssion to predict future, it is almost guaranteed that SSBB will sell more than SSBM.
If you don't believe me, why don't we wait 4 more month (until end of August 2008), and revisit this again ?
So far, with only two territories having the game, one for less than a month, it's already close to passing SSBM.
Oh and VGChartz has posted an article responding to the New York Times piece, saying "sadly we feel that the information was misinterpreted and ended up presenting sales numbers incorrectly." Perhaps you'd like to eat crow now and admit you were wrong.
Agreed. Earlier I was severely chastised for lightly peppering my language like Yatzee. Apparently TSE is a site for kids and they come here to specifically avoid PG-13 language. Penis.
RE: Laoldar? Yes. Yes I do. Innocent Laoldar, subject to so many ad hominem attacks at the hands of ole Zeromous. Disrespect and ad homenim attacks beget the same in return. Perhaps if he didn't treat myself and others like a lower caste I might have little reason to live up to his impressions. Watch him be pretend to offended by my profile!
But you are not deliberately feeding the troll, so I take no offense, let's chat games!
RE: The rest of your comment, I think you missed some previous discussions in this thread regarding projected sales in the 14-17 million range. Completely unlikely of course based on recent sales information, and well the perceptions of the general public. Basically due to every aspect of my argument for SSBB achieving lower than 14 million copies. No matter, I'm just here to bug Laoldar, fo shizzle.
SSBB have done well, since it done better than it's previous game on N64 and GCN. It has? What do you base this on? From what I can tell it has done about the same as the GCN version thus far, and early indications are that its dropping off faster than expected.
Regarding so called "so popular" Zero punctuation If you don't follow reviews I'm not surprised but Yatzee (Zero Punctuation) has become somewhat of a rockstar in the review world. He specifically reviewed SSBB because of all the crazy fans hyped him to do so. Why don't you check the Alexa reports yourself, there's no doubt Zero Punctuation drives a lot of hits to The Escapist magazine (which I'm guessing few people here read).
GoNintendo’s just published what is supposedly a release schedule from Nintendo Norway, which dates a huge amount of product for Europe, including Super Smash Bros. Brawl for June 27.
I like Zero Punctuation. Yahtzee is witty and funny, and does a great job with his video reviews.
You don't have to agree with him. By definition, aren't reviews personal opinions? He can have his, you can have yours. They should never be taken personally if you do not agree.
I'm sick of his constant ad hominem attacks, which were unprovoked. If you want to see a bad attitude on the exchange, maybe you should see his numerous "I'm quitting, so I'm going to insult everyone" rants...or even his profile.
@apujanata, His reviews are pretty much always laugh out loud funny. Seems to have a decent following and his reviews are even previewed on X-Play now on G4. He doesn't claim to be a "fair" reviewer, he just likes going for laughs.
@zeromous, Do you really have to go on and on and on attacking Laoldar ? What happened between you two in the past ?
As is true of any game, we can always said that most people don't care about them. Why ? If most people care about them, that game will have 50%+ sell through to the H/W userbase.
Even GTAIV does not have 50%+ penetration to H/W userbase, since PS2 have 100 Million+ H/W userbase, but GTAIV didn't manage to achieve 50 Million+ sales on PS2. Same thing happened to Halo series, Mario series etc. So I didn't see anything embarassing about the fact that quite a few people don't like SSBB.
However, what is important is whether a game have good sales. Good sales (hopefully) meant good profit for the developer and publisher, which enable them to make more game in the future. In this respect, SSBB have done well, since it done better than it's previous game on N64 and GCN. Just like Halo 3 is doing well, and GTAIV are expected to do well.
Regarding so called "so popular" Zero punctuation, how did you arrive at that conclusion ? What data / fact you used to support your conclusion ? Which other review site you compared "Zero punctuation" to ?
I am asking this because I didn't really follow review, so I am not familiar with Zero punctuation.
*Most people (like the reviewer) don't like fighting games (I however do, but am more refined, being a master of SF-SF3, this does not change my personal opinion of SSBB, even though I have unlocked all the characters, had 4 people over to play it, and completed the Subspace Emissary, the best hackneyed part!)
*Most people (who don't like fighting games) ESPECIALLY don't like multi-player fighting games
*Zero Punctuation is insanely popular, and while doesn't generally reflect the will of the masses, in this case, it's pretty spot on.
*Laoldar, does not find the last point shocking.
*ergo: Laoldar does not find it shocking that his inflated analysis of this game doesn't reflect the reality that most people don't really care about SSBB

But Europe has Mario Kart Wii first. And probably Wii Fit First. It should be "not really poor europe".
