HAHA you hate it! Till next time I randomly pop in, suckers playahs hatahs and hoez (oh and rednecks too, don't want to leave them out, they get testy!) =)
It seems that with SSBB you have all realized 1700DKP was a little farking insane. I'm also glad to see the PS3 has finally surpassed the 360 in expected sales as I've been predicting since Nov 06, and confirmed with actual trending in Mar 07. *applauds*
Luckily for all of you I just hopped in to say i told you so and give my impressions on SSBB. I can see the conversation has just devolved further in to some sort of Halo vs SSB over time wank fest. Fun.
*yawn*
I actually bought SSBB the other day, since it was the last copy left, and as you may have noticed I'm a bit of an assh*le. I brought it home and played it extensively. This is my first SSB game having avoided the others knowing full well what they are.
But being an assh*ole I couldn't resist the thought of depriving one of you salivating fan-boys the chance to get your brawl on. So I gave it a chance, a good honest chance. I played online, I played with four players in my living room, I explored all of the unlockables, I even finished the game with several characters. At the end of all that I can confirm the following:
*SSBB offers nothing over previous titles *SSBB is overhyped, and while like to be bought by people familiar with the serious, its not very attractive to new customers *SSBB is a button mashing Nintendo wank-fest. It's a Nintendo Zeitgeist, and belongs in any serious collectors collection of title. *Because of this it alienates the majority of the population that doesn't give a rats ass about SSB or Nintendo. *The simplistic fighting is pretty much a snoozefest. This is contrasted by the frantic unintelligible action which results in a weak fighter, on par with old Tecmo arcade brawlers or Pit Fighter. *Power ups are cool, but really don't make the game any more fun. *The Level design is the best part of this game. Some levels border on ingenious while others border on unplayable.
Anyway those are my impressions on SSBB, take em or leave em. I don't see 17 million suckers buying this game EVER, but 1400 DKP seems like a nice threshold for this game to demonstrate realistic, moderate growth.
@apujanata,Oops, sorry about that. I should have not posted them this way.
On topic: You may consider a few things: In 2005, Xbox was almost a dead system. How about comparing sales of Halo 2 and SSBM a year after that? In both Nov. and Dec. of 2006, Halo 2 outsold SSBM easily (50k vs 25k in Nov and 150k vs 95k in Dec.) Its sales in both Jan and Feb of 2007 were more than double of SSBM's one. In sep of 2007, almost 3 years after release, Halo 2 sold nearly 50k while SSBM sold less than 10k. During 2005 and 2006 Halo 2 sold more than 1.4m copies. Also it sold extremely well during 2007 too, in its third year.
I meant that Halo is not a type of game that sells well in its first months and then disappear from the charts, it will sell consistently for years after its release.
@starship, First : You shouldn't post the actual #. Remember your promise.
If you really have to post the #, you should put something vague, like : Jan - Oct 2004 : Halo : 60K - 100K. Nov - Dec 2004 : 100K - 150K
You focused on Halo, which do have legs (especially with the Platinum pack).
How about Halo 2, which was released on Nov 9, 2004 ? In April - Dec 05, only a few months after release, their monthly sales is only 25 - 35K. Would you still say that Halo 2 is considered as "having legs" ?
In August 2005, Halo 2 sales # are ONLY 1K above SSBM. Imagine that, a less than one year released game selling only slightly better than than a game that was released 4 years before (Dec 2001). If this didn't convince you that Halo 2 (and most probably Halo 3) is a game that doesn't have legs, nothing else will convince you.
Finally, there is a possibility that you will say "well, SSBM have a very long legs, and Halo 2 also have legs, but not as long as SSBM". In that case, I can only say "your definition of legs is different than mine, so let's agree to disagree on the definition of legs".
@starship, There are some differences in the Halo and Pokemon comparison that make the comparison pretty iffy.
Also, SSBB is bound to be a game with strong legs and a comparison with Halo 3 is unwieldy due to the large number of differences (other games being released in the genre, platform, audience, etc).
Nice work in getting the numbers together, where did you get them from?
Also I must add that despite the fact that the original Halo released 1.5 years before Pokemon R/S and GBA was a much stronger platform than the Xbox was, Halo outsold Pokemon R/S in the second half of 2004!
